Attending the 2013 fair were 274 (grades 6-12) students with 235 projects.  In the morning, the judges have 1 hour to preview projects before student interviews.  During that hour, a group from Creighton University performed a chemistry show with music, choreography, chemical reactions.
 
 

 
For 29 years, Northern has hosted the Northeastern South Dakota Science Fair, showcasing more than 500 projects from young scientists in grades 6-12 from this region. The event is affiliated with Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in Washington, D.C.
 
Approximately 70 professionals from Aberdeen area, Northern faculty and upper-level Northern students judge the fair in March.
 
The top two participants and top team receive an all-expense paid, 5-day trip to the International Science and Engineering Fair, where they compete for cash awards and other prizes such as free college tuition. The 2013 fair is scheduled May 12-17 in Phoenix, Ariz.
