'We Are Pussy Riot'

This play is about the most famous performance-art piece in history. In protest of the illegal 2012 presidential election, Pussy Riot – an anonymous Russian feminist protest punk rock group – staged a performance inside Moscow’s Christ the Savior Church. Their 48-second “Punk Prayer” and the viral video of that performance put them in the public eye. The Kremlin responded by hunting down and arresting three members of the group. A very public and controversial trial led to a two-year sentence for “hooliganism.” Their story is told by a troupe of “Yurodivy,” or Holy Fools, from the Orthodox tradition of saints who strive “with imaginary insanity to reveal the insanity of the world.”

"We Are Pussy Riot" will be performed nightly at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1-3, with a special midnight showing on Dec. 1 in the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Black Box Theater.
