ABERDEEN, S.D. – Katie Appl, Megan Hanson and Paulo Daniel Jimenez will hold a senior recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, in the Northern State University Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.
Appl, the daughter of Jim and Susan Appl, grew up in Aberdeen, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School in 2014.
Hanson, the daughter of Betty and Will Hanson, grew up in Pierre, graduating from T.F. Riggs High School in 2013.
Jimenez, the son of Ever Jimenez and Rocio Cossio, grew up in Cochabamba, Bolivia, graduating from high school in 2013.
Appl, a vocal and instrumental music education major, plays the alto saxophone and is a mezzo soprano. She will perform “Sonata, Opus 19” by Paul Creston, “Caprice En Forme De Valse” by Paul Bonneau, “Tableaux De Provence Mvts. 1,2,3” by Paule Maurice, “Presti omai” by G.F. Handel and “Parto! Ma tu ben mio” by W. A. Mozart. She will be accompanied by Kay Fischer and Molly Royals.
Hanson, a music education major, plays the euphonium and is a mezzo soprano. She will perform “Erster Verlust,” “Geheimes” and “Heidenröslein” by Franz Schubert; “Rhapsody for Euphonium” by James Curnow; “Selections from Six Studies in English Folk-Song, Movements: I, II, and V” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; and “Selections from Bach Cello Suite # 4” by Sarabande, Bourree, Allemande. She will be accompanied by Mary Marion and Will Hanson.
Jimenez, a music education major with a marketing minor, plays percussion. He will perform “Wicca” by Casey Cangelosi, “Claire de Lune” by Debussy arr. by Pete Chambers, “Marimba Concerto I, Greetings” by Ney Rosauro and “Moanin” by Bobby Timons. He will be accompanied by Dr. William Wieland.
Appl has studied under Mr. Fred Hemke and Dr. Darci Bultema during her time at NSU. She will graduate from Northern in the spring. She plans to student teach in the spring and hopes to find a job teaching 5-12 band after graduation.
“NSU has strong music and education departments. I knew the music faculty would help me grow as an all-around musician. The size of Northern allows students to have more opportunities for leadership and professional development,” mentioned Appl.
Hanson has studied under Dr. Travis Netzer and Mr. Michael Skyles during her time at NSU. She will graduate from Northern in the spring. She plans to either teach elementary music or pursue more education after graduation.
Jimenez has studied under Dr. Terry Beckler during his time at NSU. He will graduate from Northern in the spring. He plans to either teach middle/high school band or go to graduate school for jazz performance studies.
