ABERDEEN, S.D. – Lexi Becht and Kylie Rusch will hold a senior recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 2, in Northern State University’s Krikac Auditorium.

Becht, the daughter of Doug and Myrna Becht, grew up in Clear Lake, graduating from Deuel High School in 2014.

Rusch, the daughter of Shellie and Darin Rusch, grew up in Bismarck, N.D., graduating from Saint Mary’s Central High School in 2014.

Becht, a music major, is a soprano and plays the trumpet. She will perform “Aria di Rosina” by Haydn, as well as several selections from Schubert, including “Lachen un weinen.” She will also perform pieces by Hahn, including “L’heure exquise.” Finally, she will perform pieces by Bernstein, including “Jupiter has Seven Moons.” She will be accompanied by Mary Marion.

Rusch, a vocal and instrumental music education major, plays the piano, flute and is a mezzo soprano. She will perform “Flute Concerto Movement III. Allegro Scherzando” by Jacques Ibert, “Sonata V Opus 10 Number 2 in g minor” by Jan Ladislav Dussek, “Ridente La Calma K. 210a” by W.A. Mozart, “Nocturne Opus 9 Number 2 in E flat Major” by Frederic Chopin and “Piano Concerto Number 1 in C Major opus 15 Movement I. Allegro con brio” by Ludwig van Beethoven. She will be accompanied by Kay Fischer, Ricky Fischer and Dr. Marcela Faflak.

Becht has studied under Dr. Darci Bultema during her time at NSU. She will graduate from Northern in December. She is unsure of her future plans, but notes that “God will lead me to where I need to be.”

“I decided to attend Northern because of its small, personal environment and, of course, wonderful music program. Having professors actually know your name and care about your success and well-being is so encouraging,” mentioned Becht about her choice to attend Northern.

Rusch has studied under Faflak, Dr. Marla Fogderud and Mr. Frederic Hemke during her time at NSU. She will graduate from Northern in December. She plans to get married in December and then begin teaching in the spring. She would love to teach elementary music.

“I loved the music program. I met with Dr. Faflak and Mr. Hemke and I knew they would be wonderful professors to help me develop as a musician. The campus was beautiful and I immediately felt at home,” said Rusch.
