ABERDEEN, S.D. – “The Great Places Series” by artist Laura Jewell will be on display in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery through April 24.

A reception is set for 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, in the JFAC Gallery.

“The Great Places Series” captures the landscapes of South Dakota's state parks in watercolor. Jewell received a South Dakota Arts Council grant to complete this body of work, during which she visited each state park.

Jewell’s work embodies the natural hues of South Dakota’s environment, with the iconic horizon line anchoring each composition. The visual texture of splatters, and blending of colors adds an expressive, abstract element to each landscape.

Jewell received her BFA from the University of South Dakota, and currently lives in Sioux Falls. Her work has been exhibited and reside in collections all across the Midwest, and Western regions of the U.S. In 2016 she received the Artist Career Development grant from the South Dakota Arts Council.
