ABERDEEN, S.D. – Four candidates have been selected as finalists for the position of dean of the Northern State University Millicent Atkins School of Education.

Each candidate will hold a community forum, which will be open to the public. Information about the candidates and their forums are as follows:

Dr. Elvira Sanatullova-Allison: 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, Mewaldt-Jensen 146

Sanatullova-Allison works at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va., serving as acting dean and unit head of education, College of Education and Professional Studies; chair, Department of Education; and associate professor of education (currently being promoted to professor). She received her bachelor’s degree in French/German and foreign language education at Uzbekistan State University of World Languages. She earned her master’s degree in modern languages and literatures and her Ph.D. in education –administration, curriculum and instruction from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Dr. Daniel Wong: 3 p.m. Monday, May 21, MJ 146

Wong is currently a professor in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Foundations in the College of Education at Mississippi State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in rehabilitation services administration from the University of North Texas. He received his Ph.D. in human rehabilitation (rehabilitation counseling) from the University of Northern Colorado.

Dr. Yuma Tomes: 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, MJ 146

Tomes is currently chair of school psychology and professor of clinical psychology in the School Psychology Program at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He received his bachelor’s degree in developmental psychology from the University of North Carolina; a master’s degree/certificate of advanced study in school psychology from Appalachian State University; and Ph.D. in educational psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia.

Dr. Alan Neville: 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 25, MJ 146

Neville has worked at NSU since 2002 and currently serves as professor of education and Department Chair for Teacher Education Programs. He received his bachelor’s degree in music from the University of South Dakota, his master’s degree in education from South Dakota State University and his Ph.D. in education from USD.

The new School of Education dean will replace current dean Dr. Kelly Duncan, who is retiring. Duncan has been involved in education at the K-12 and higher ed levels in South Dakota for more than 30 years. Six of those years were at NSU.
