Dr. Timothy Downs on campus

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has created a one-of-a-kind welcome video to show that NSU is a university unlike any other.

The new welcome video stars NSU President Dr. Timothy Downs, who explains why aspiring college students should attend Northern. And he’s not just telling them, he’s showing them – Downs is featured in a series of shots across campus, participating in activities from marching band to a chess match with Thunder, NSU’s mascot.

Downs said the video provided a chance for Northern to stand out for potential students and families as they seek information on various schools – and to show off the university’s friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

“There’s so much positive momentum on campus with nearly $75 million in building projects, including three new residence halls, the Regional Science Education Center and even more projects on the horizon,” Downs said. “We wanted to capture that excitement in a fun way and give a good picture of everything the university has to offer.”

The video has gotten a great response from current students, alumni and community members since it was posted early Sunday morning. To date, the video has reached more than 50,000 people across multiple social media channels. Watch videos about Northern on the NSU YouTube Channel.
