Welcome to the School of Education at Northern State University! The School of Education includes the departments of Elementary/Secondary/Special Education and E-learning, Health and Physical Education, and Psychology and Counseling.
Well-prepared teachers are the most valuable resource a community can provide its young people. A major challenge our nation currently faces is finding future teachers who have the knowledge and skills to be successful educators. At NSU, we’ve been preparing successful educators for more than 100 years!
NSU offers a wide variety of education programs in elementary education, secondary education (biology, chemistry, history, English/language arts, and mathematics), and K-12 education (art education, vocal and instrumental music education, physical education, Spanish education, and special education). Numerous endorsement options exist for all teaching majors, including preschool and preschool special education, kindergarten, middle level education, English as a new language education (ENL), blind or visually impaired, and coaching.
In addition to teacher education program, the School of Education offers undergraduate majors in Human Performance and Fitness/Exercise Science, Sport Marketing and Administration, and Psychology.
Students who major in Human Performance and Fitness are prepared for professional certification and employment as personal trainers, strength and conditioning specialists, directors of wellness programs, and commercial health and fitness facility administrators. Sport Marketing majors are prepared to enter the fields of sport marketing and advertising, event promotion and event center management, and may serve as managers of sport-related businesses, athletic directors, or sport sponsorship specialists. Some elect to pursue graduate study in sport management, business management, and law.
Psychology graduates find employment in community service agencies, residential care facilities, and human resource organizations. Many psychology majors go on to graduate and professional schools.
The School of Education offers graduate programs in Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling, Leadership and Administration, Teaching and Learning, Sport Performance and Leadership, Educational Studies, Instructional Design in E-learning and Training and Development in E-learning.
I wish you the very best as you pursue your educational goals. I am confident that if you select Northern State University, you will find a warm and friendly campus with the program that’s right for you!
Respectfully,
Dr. Constance Geier
