At Northern, students are given the tools to succeed through Northern's academic support system, called University College. University College provides academic services that support students through academic advising, free tutoring, and academic skills development. 

Within University College are the:

• Advising Center
• Individual Tutoring
• Math, Reading, and Writing centers
• Supplemental Instruction
• TRiO Student Support Services, and
• TRiO Upward Bound
  

The Math, Reading, and Writing centers provide general classroom tutoring and testing-specific tutoring.

TRiO Student Support Services assists students who meet federal requirements. Services include personalized academic assistance and support, help locating campus resources, tutoring support, assistance in choosing a major, help with career and graduate school planning, and grant aid for qualified students.

TRiO Upward Bound helps high school participants who meet federal guidelines prepare for college entrance.
