Dear campus community,

To assist with your virtual meetings this spring, Northern has added various Zoom background options on the NSU COVID-19 Resource webpage.

These backgrounds, an assortment of Northern images, are located under the “Campus Links and Resources” section. They are available for use by any NSU student, faculty or staff member.

Here are basic instructions on how to use Zoom background images:

1. Download your background of choice from the various Zoom background links found on the NSU COVID-19 webpage and save it to your computer.
2. Go to Zoom, sign in, and then click your profile picture, followed by the settings link in the drop-down menu.
3. Navigate to the “Virtual Background” tab to make sure it is enabled.
4. When you are ready to start your meeting, select “Host a Meeting” and choose video.
5. When the screen pops up, navigate to the video icon along the bottom, click the arrow next to it, and select “Choose Virtual Background.”
6. Uncheck the boxes next to “Mirror my video” and “I have a green screen.”
7. Then, press the plus button to add your downloaded background from your computer.
8. If you’ve uploaded it but it still won’t display, make sure you have enough lighting and that you are in front of a simple background such as a neutral wall.
