Yes. Masks are now required in all public spaces on campus, as mandated by the S.D. Board of Regents Face Covering Protocol at Masks on Campus, and visitors are asked to follow Centers for Disease Control guidelines, including regarding social distancing. Visitors to campus who have close contact with someone who has COVID-19 are asked to immediately leave campus, return home and notify the NSU Emergency Management Team at As part of a commitment to providing a safe and healthy campus community, Northern has created a COVID-19 Self-Monitoring and Notification Policy to outline COVID-19 monitoring and notification plans for students, faculty and staff.

A limited-attendance commencement ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. Nov. 21 in the Barnett Center. Only graduating students, faculty members and select other employees will be allowed inside the Barnett Center. Masks will be required and participants will be appropriately spaced. Learn more HERE.

Northern students are encouraged to wear masks off campus to help protect the community. Northern opened one of its residence halls during the summer to provide lodging for emergency and medical personnel fighting Covid-19. NSU Athletics also found ways for student-athletes to give back to their communities through an altered version of the Day of Champions.
