Dr. Waid has been a member of the faculty in the department of history and social sciences at Northern State University since the fall of 2013.  She earned a B.A. in psychology from the University of Kentucky; an M.S.C.J.  degree in criminal justice from the University of Alabama; and a doctorate in criminology and criminal justice from the Florida State University’s College of Criminology and Criminal Justice.  A native of Richmond, Va., Dr. Waid was a four-year letter winner on the women’s swim team as well as a two-time Southeastern Conference all-academic performer at the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Waid has been involved in several research projects, including a study of low-income neighborhoods in Mobile, Ala., a statewide evaluation of disproportionate minority contact in Florida’s juvenile justice system, and a multi-college campus evaluation of crime fear and punitive attitudes of students.  Her scholarly writing has appeared as book chapters and in journals such as Corrections Compendium, The Journal of Juvenile Justice Services, The Quarterly Review of Distance Education, The International Journal of Social Inquiry, Journal of Criminal Justice Education, The Canadian Journal of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Western Criminology Review, and the Annual Review of Interdisciplinary Research.
