ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University is proud to announce that Dr. Doug Ohmer, a long-time faculty member and esteemed colleague, will be the featured speaker at the 2024 Spring Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 4. Ohmer, who is retiring from Northern State University this year after an impressive 30-year career, will share his wisdom and insights with the graduating class.

Ohmer joined Northern State University in 1994 and has since made significant contributions to the institution. He served as an associate professor of management, dean of the School of Business, and dean of the School of Professional Studies. His dedication to education and his field of expertise has left an indelible mark on the university and its students.

“Dr. Ohmer served Northern and our community through his leadership as Dean of Business and Professional Studies and inspired and motivated students throughout his career,” said Dr. Neal Schnoor, president of Northern State University.

Originally from Kentucky, Ohmer's educational journey is a testament to his passion for learning and personal growth. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and banking from Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Kentucky, followed by an MBA from Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights. He later obtained his Ph.D. in business administration/management from the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

The 2024 Spring Commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 4, at 10 a.m. and will be held at the Barnett Center. The event will celebrate the achievements of the graduating class and mark the end of an era as Ohmer bids farewell to Northern State University.
