  • ABERDEEN, S.D. –  This Saturday, Dec. 9, 117 students will graduate at Northern State University’s winter commencement.

    The public is welcome to attend and honor our new Wolves alumni. The commencement ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater. It is expected to last approximately 90 minutes.

    Dr. Hannah Walters, Associate Professor in the School of Business and 2023 NSU Foundation Faculty Excellence Awardee, will deliver the commencement address.

  • Northern State University Professor of History, Art Marmorstein, will give a talk on the rise of anti-Jewish sentiment in Nazi Germany at 7 p.m. Nov. 29, in Johnson Fine Arts Center, Room 181. The talk is highly relevant to the recent rise of anti-Jewish sentiment and violence in America and around the world.

    Marmorstein will present “It Couldn’t Happen Here: The Rise of Anti-Jewish Sentiment in Nazi Germany,” which will discuss how an advanced, educated, highly literate and cultured people could descend into a regime define by anti-Jewish hate.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. –  The Northern State University Department of Music has awarded scholarships from the Loren E. Lomis Music Scholarship fund covering the 2023-24 academic year for the following students: Ashlee Kaup, Hoven; Ava Pickard, Sioux Falls; Cassie Webb, Aberdeen; and Madelyn Westby, Aberdeen. Pursuant to the Last Will and Testament of Loren E.     ABERDEEN, S.D. – Home games are about to get a bit tastier, with matching maroon and gold brews to choose from, thanks to the partnership with One Legged Pheasant.

    Alpha Lager, which was released last year, has been a hit. The lager was specifically crafted to be a light, easy-to-drink beer and it has been selling out, even with increased orders.   • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Five finalists will have five minutes to sell their ideas, shark tank style, at Northern’s annual Idea Pitch competition on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. in Lincoln Gallery.     ABERDEEN, S.D. – A guest musical duo from Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) will perform an upcoming concert at Northern State University.

    Yu-Mei Huang, violin, and Fritz Gechter, piano, will present a recital of music by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and Mozart on Monday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Krikac Auditorium.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University received a nearly $1.5 million grant to launch the only McNair Scholars Program in South Dakota.

    The McNair Scholars Program is a federal TRIO program designed to prepare undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. Britt Lorenz, executive director of the Student Success Center, and Dr. Erin Fouberg, associate provost and professor of geography, are the co-principal investigators on the grant.
