COVID-19 News

Northern encourages all members of the campus community to get vaccinated if they are able. COVID-19 vaccines can be scheduled at the following links:

Parking Permits

Campus community: Parking permits for the spring semester are available to purchase. A permit is required to park in any parking lot on campus. Permits will be valid as explained below. Ticketing will begin Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 8 a.m.

Northern’s two types of parking permits are as follows:

  • Gray Permit: This permit costs $67.50 for the spring semester and allows you to park in any lot except the visitor lot at the northwest corner of the Johnson Fine Arts Center and the visitor spots in the Washington Street lot. You can purchase this permit online here and pick it up at the Parking Office on the second floor of the Physical Plant the day after submitting your payment online. 
  • Orange Permit: This permit costs $40.50 for the spring semester and allows you to park in any parking lot except the Washington Street lots, Steele Hall/Great Plains West lot and the visitor lot by the Johnson Fine Arts Center. You can purchase this permit online here and pick it up at the Parking Office on the second floor of the Physical Plant the day after submitting your payment online.

You are encouraged to purchase your permit online. Permits may also be purchased in person at the Physical Plant, though cash or check is required. When purchasing your permit either online or in person, your license plate number is required. 

 

Aberdeen Area Pride Meeting

Aberdeen Area Pride is holding a monthly get-together of the LGBTQ+ members of the community (allies, family and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend as well). The get-together, sponsored by NSU Multicultural Student Affairs, will take place 3:30-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, at Aberdeen’s Red Rooster Coffee House, 218 S Main St. It will be a time and place for people of all ages to hang out together with other LGBTQ+ members of the community in a space where they can feel safe, seen and loved. There is no agenda to these meetings. Let's all just get to know each other!

 

Invitation from Dr. Wendy van Gent: NSU/Aberdeen Women’s Choir 

The NSU/Aberdeen Women’s Choir will meet Tuesdays from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. in the JFAC Choir Room starting Jan. 11. New members will be accepted through the end of January. The NSU/Aberdeen Women’s Choir is a treble ensemble comprised of the Northern student body, faculty and staff, and the greater Aberdeen community of South Dakota. The requirements for membership are a love for women’s choral music, personal enjoyment of singing and the director’s approval. Everyone should register using the QR code provided at rehearsal, or REGISTER HERE. (Students should also register for MUEN 103/303.)

 

Rep. Dusty Johnson at NSU

United States Representative Dusty Johnson will speak on Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Centennial Rooms of the NSU Student Center. He will discuss the importance of civic engagement and current affairs in Washington, D.C. The event is sponsored by the Center for Public History and Civic Engagement. Light refreshments will be served.

 

Cracker Barrels

Legislative Cracker Barrel sessions for 2022 will be held in the Kessler’s Champions Club in the NSU Barnett Center. Cracker barrels, which are open to the public, will take place 10 a.m.-noon on the following Saturday mornings:

  • Jan. 29, 2022
  • Feb. 12, 2022
  • March 5, 2022

 

JFAC Gallery Exhibition

Artist Aaron C. Packard will have an exhibition, “Hyper-Photomontage,” on display in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery through Feb. 4, 2022. A closing reception, free and open to the public, will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4. Packard is an experienced commercial and editorial photographer, working in southeast South Dakota since 2002. “Hyper-Photomontage” features vibrant and abstract, almost kaleidoscope-like photographs that encourage the viewer to linger in observation.
