For 125 years, Northern State University has been a place where people come together to learn, grow, discover and make a difference. From its beginnings as Northern Normal and Industrial School in 1901 to the vibrant university it is today, Northern’s story has been shaped by generations of students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends who have helped build something lasting in Aberdeen and beyond.

Our 125th anniversary is a celebration of that remarkable journey. It’s a chance to remember the people and moments that shaped Northern, from early traditions and historic milestones to the accomplishments, discoveries and experiences that continue to define the Wolf Pack. Through photographs, stories, memories and milestones, we invite you to explore the people and places that have made Northern what it is today.

But an anniversary isn’t only about looking back. As we celebrate 125 years, we’re also looking ahead—to new ideas, new opportunities and the next generation of Wolves who will carry Northern’s legacy forward. The story that began in 1901 is still being written, and the best chapters are yet to come.
