The Honors Program provides academically talented and highly motivated students opportunities to excel in the classroom, as campus leaders in recognized student organizations, and in undergraduate research.
HHMI Sea-Phages
Northern's participation in the Howard Hughes Institute's Science Education Alliance's Phase Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program gives students a chance to make a national impact.
Study Abroad Courses
Northern offers a variety of unique opportunities for students and community members to study and learn outside the U.S., led by experienced faculty and including the option to enroll in credit-bearing courses.

Institutional Review Board
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) conducts reviews in advance of and grants or denies approval for research with human subjects conducted on or off campus by Northern faculty, staff or students.

Northern’s Office of Sponsored Projects provides pre- and post-award services for faculty and staff.
S.D. Board of Regents' Research Affairs
The South Dakota Board of Regents’ Research Affairs office provides grants, oversight, and support for the campuses and faculty in the state’s public university system.
