The Great Plains West and Steele parking lots are open and the athletic complex will soon host its first games, according to NSU Facilities Manager Monte Mehlhoff's campus construction update.

Regional Science Education Center
This week, masons continued to clean and seal burnish block. The steel crew installed decking and detailed the north wing, and continued work on the greenhouse.

Plumbers and electricians performed underground and on-deck work in the south wing. The concrete crew placed the last concrete on the south wing deck and began preparing for slab work on grade in the south wing.

The framing crew installed sheathing on the parapet walls and is framing on the east side. The utility contractor has nearly completed the detention area and continued storm sewer work to the south. South of JFAC, curb and gutter is in place and seeding and cleanup is scheduled.

Athletic Complex
Power is up and running just in time for a Sept. 1 game.

Contractors worked this week to complete the pavilion's first floor, provide power to the pavilion, complete a working scoreboard and finish the press box.

On the first floor, workers continued installation of ceramic floor and wall tile, toilet partitions and accessories, doors and hardware, plumbing fixtures, electrical fixtures and devices and HVAC finishes. Steel stairways were scheduled to arrive this week and handrails have been ordered.

Locker bases are framed and electrical rough-ins will follow. Flooring installation was set for late this week; lighted signage installation, Aug. 29 and 30. Metal wall and roof panel work continued and should be complete early next week.

Framing is 90 percent complete on the second floor. Rough-ins continue and sheetrock hanging and taping are set to begin Sept. 3.

Because of a change in the flagpole foundation design, berm fill is on hold; after filling is complete, sidewalks will be poured and the main entrance will be complete.

Barnett Center

The roof replacement and air handler unit projects are on schedule and going smoothly.

Earlier this week, the roofing crew removed rock from the upper portions of the roof. Lower roofing portions should be finished this week.

The 10 new air handler units for the Barnett Center are scheduled to arrive Nov. 1 and set to be installed on the roof the week of Nov. 5. The eight old units are to be removed from the roof by crane Sept. 8.

Physical Plant

Installation of the deaerator tank was to be complete Aug. 30. Boiler No. 3 is in place and will be ready for use by Sept. 11.  Boiler No. 2 is en route and should arrive Sept. 4. Installation of Boiler No. 2 and project completion, including new metal roof and backup generator, is set for Sept. 25.

The Steele Hall/Great Plains West and Newman Center parking lots are open and ready for use.
