NSU Facilities Manager Monte Mehlhoff has added sidewalk closures to this week's campus construction update.

Construction-related Sidewalk Closures

Starting Oct. 22:

  • The sidewalk along the west side of State Street will be closed for gas installation.
  • The sidewalk south of the science center (north of the Barnett Center parking lot) will be closed for power installation.
  • The sidewalk at the intersection of Lloyd Street and 14th Avenue (north side) also will be closed.

Closures are expected to last all week.

Regional Science Education Center

The concrete crew is placing slab on grade in the north wing, hoping to have most slabs placed by Oct. 19. Plumbers are doing rough-ins in the walls, installing heating tube in the floor and continuing with roof drain piping.

Plumbers and electricians have finished underground work in the greenhouse, which is being prepared for concrete placement. Electricians have started running feeders and the HVAC contractor continues with layout installation of sleeves in the walls, as well as setting curbs on the roof.

Framers have nearly completed work on the south wing's second-floor walls and have begun work on first-floor walls. They also are preparing exterior sheathing for installation of air and vapor barrier.

The steel crew is installing stair No. 1 and roof opening angles.

Carpenters this week continued with window blocking in the south wing and roof blocking at the roof parapets at the north wing. Temporary enclosure installation also continues.

North wing roof work is ongoing.

Barnett Center

Roof replacement is very close to completion, with only upper roof finishing and metal flashing installation remaining. The project is expected to wrap up at the end of October.

Physical Plant

Both boilers are installed in the heating plant and roof work will begin next week.
