POSTED APRIL 3, 2020 - INFORMATION MAY HAVE CHANGED

Sent on behalf of President Downs

Students,

I know the COVID-19 pandemic has created a sense of unease and fear in the lives of many people, including causing concerns regarding financial wellbeing. For some of you, that might include worries about how you will continue to afford attending Northern State University.

There is still a lot we do not know, but I promise you, Northern will do whatever it can to work with you and your families during this unprecedented time.

One example is Financial Aid adjustments and appeals. If you or your family’s income has been affected by COVID-19, I encourage you to reach out to Financial Aid (finaid@northern.edu) regarding a potential appeal. Everyone’s financial situation is different, but an appeal may present an opportunity for more federal grants, loans or work study funds. Again, you may contact Financial Aid at finaid@northern.edu.

I also want you to know that Northern is doing all it can to help during this time. Just this week, we announced a zero percent increase in tuition and fees for the next academic year. This means your tuition won’t increase for fall 2020 and spring 2021.

In addition to freezing tuition, we continue to offer innovative methods of supporting you, our students. Every area of campus has adjusted to better fit these unusual circumstances, offering online options to help you stay connected to campus for your studies, instructional support, advising, and student services. I appreciate everyone’s willingness and patience as we do our best to finish the semester.

For more information on support services, please take a look at the campus messages, links and resources found at northern.edu/coronavirus. You can also visit covid.sd.gov for information on COVID-19 in South Dakota. And remember: Please continue to take care of yourselves and take all precautionary measures to stay safe and healthy during this time.

Stay well, Wolves.
