Actors on stage during Northern Fort Playhouse 2019 performance

This July, Northern State University Theater produced two musicals at Fort Sisseton in partnership with Fort Sisseton Historic State Park: “Daddy Long Legs” and “SHOUT! The Mod Musical.”

For NSU student Shelby Glover, acting in “Daddy Long Legs” with just one other person has been an eye-opening experience.

“It’s a new dynamic for me and I’ve loved exploring the more intimate setting of the show,” she said in a written statement. “The show itself is a beautiful story of a young girl coming of age and finding her place in the world. It’s been a joy to experience her story and act it out on stage.”

And for “SHOUT!,” she has had the opportunity to mentor younger cast members.

“SHOUT! has been a lot of fun but more so in watching the younger cast find their stride and discover new things about their characters.”

“I could not be happier with the season,” said Jordan Jaked Carrier, artistic director. “The students have grown as individuals and artists, they’ve formed friendships and community through their work on the shows and through the time they've spent playing ladder ball and enjoying campfires. While I am impressed with the final productions of both shows, I am most pleased with the community we have created as an entire company.”

Northern Fort Playhouse will return to Fort Sisseton next summer with new productions. For more information, visit the NFP website.
