This week’s NSU Noon Forum, “Ezra Pound and Classical Chinese Poetry” with Haixia Zhang, will take place Wednesday, April 4, at noon in the Williams Library Round Room.
NSU Career Fair
The annual NSU Career Fair will take place on Thursday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center Centennial Rooms. The event is open to all students and recent alumni, and is a great opportunity to not only learn about positions available, but to also network with professionals. Candidates should dress professionally, bring copies of their résumés and be prepared for interviews. Candidates may check Wolf Work regularly or contact the Career Center for participating organizations and openings. For additional information, please contact NSU Career Services.
Employee Performance Award Nominations
We are in the planning stages for our Employee Service and Recognition lunch. That means it’s also time to recognize your co-workers, supervisors and faculty for the Employee Performance awards.
You can nominate NSU staff in the following categories:

- Excellence in Management
- Student Service Award – Support Services
- Teamwork Award
- Community Leader Service Award

Upcoming Undergraduate Research, Creativity and Scholarship Forum
The annual Undergraduate Research, Creativity and Scholarship Forum is being held in the library on April 12, with abstracts due April 5. We plan to have a keynote speaker and a short symposium in addition to student oral and poster presentations. The purpose of the forum is to celebrate undergraduate student research across campus and within the community. Please encourage undergraduate students to present at this local venue. For example, students that have presented elsewhere recently are good candidates for this forum. If a student is interested in presenting his/her research, please submit an abstract online through MyNSU (select Undergraduate Research Program) by April 5 to present at the forum on April 12.
The Council for Exceptional Children is hosting the second annual Autism Awareness Walk on Saturday, April 7, at the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and the walk will go from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The walk itself is free, but CEC will also be selling Autism Awareness shirts. The T-shirts are navy blue, they have a Dr. Seuss hat and a puzzle piece on them, and they say "I'll Support Autism Here or There, I'll Support Autism Everywhere." Refreshments will be served after the walk by a local Parent Support Group. In order to pre-register for the walk and/or order a T-shirt, please email Andrea Christianson at andrea.christianson@wolves.northern.edu. If you are ordering a T-shirt, please include how many you need and what size.
Senior Recital on Sunday
Balie Albrecht will hold a senior recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 8, in the Johnson Fine Art Center’s Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater. Albrecht, a music education major, plays percussion. She will perform “French Suite, Movements 1 and 4” by William Kraft; “A Good Friday” by Michael Aukofer; “Suite for Solo Timpanist, Movement 1” by Scott Huston; and “Summer Treehouse” by Chad Floyd. She will be assisted by NSU music students Elsa Swanson of Chaska, Minn., Brooke Thielbar of Hardwick, Minn., and Grace Gasperich of Aberdeen.
Primrose Arts and Lecture Series: 'Everything you didn’t know about Chinese tea'
NSU’s Primrose Arts and Lecture Series will take place Tuesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Aberdeen’s Primrose Retirement Community, 1701 Third Ave. S.E. On April 10, Confucius Institute faculty will present “Everything you didn’t know about Chinese tea.” The event is free and open to the public. This spring at Northern State University, “A Writer Reads” will feature readings by three visiting writers, as well as a capstone reading by students taking fiction writing. On Tuesday, April 10, Elissa Dickey will give a public reading of her work in the Williams Library Round Room from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Dickey, a writer for the NSU Communications and Marketing Department, is an author of upmarket suspense represented by Sharon Pelletier of Dystel, Goderich and Bourret in New York City. “A Writer Reads” events are sponsored by funding from the South Dakota Humanities Council. NSU Theater's 'Sondheim on Sondheim'
The NSU Theater production of “Sondheim on Sondheim” will be performed in the Johnson Fine Art Center’s Black Box Theater nightly April 10-14 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the production are $18 for the general public. Tickets are $9 for NSU faculty and staff. NSU students are admitted free with ID (only available at the box office). Tickets can be purchased at the Johnson Fine Arts Center Box Office or online via the School of Fine Arts Page (northern.edu/artsnsu). Box office hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, noon-4 p.m. The box office opens two hours before the show begins on performance nights. The JFAC box office phone number is 605-626-2900. Kobayashi/Gray Duo Recital
An internationally known violin/piano duo will visit NSU on Thursday, April 12. The Kobayashi/Gray Duo will present a master class at 4-5 p.m. and perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. Both events will be held in NSU’s Krikac Auditorium and are free and open to the public. Men's Basketball Team Celebration
Celebrate the 2017-18 Northern State men’s basketball team on Thursday, April 12, at 7 p.m. from Wachs Arena and the Barnett Center. Join the NSU student-athletes, coaches and administration as they recap the historic season and look to the future. Hear from NSU President Dr. Tim Downs, Director of Athletics Josh Moon, head coach Paul Sather and Wolves student-athletes on stage during the celebration. The Northern State Wolf Pack Pep Band, as well as the Northern State cheerleaders, will be in attendance to rally the crowd. Fans will be able to see the NSIC and NCAA Regional Championship trophies in-person throughout the celebration. Following the on-stage presentation, kids will be given the opportunity to take pictures with the team and get an autographed team photo.
Wage Negotiation - $tart $mart Workshop
AAUW is hosting a $tart $mart workshop led by Dr. Audrey Miller (certified Start Smart Facilitator). This workshop will give you the skills and confidence to successfully negotiate your salary and benefits. You will also learn how to quantify the market value of your education, skills and experience; how to conduct objective market research and determine a fair target salary; and how to create a strategic pitch and respond to salary offers. Spring Sash Ceremony
Please join the Office of International Programs staff members to celebrate international student graduates at the spring sash ceremony on Thursday, April 19, at 5:15 p.m. in the JFAC Blue Room. This year’s ceremony will feature nearly 20 international student graduates.
Senior Tradition Luncheon
Graduating seniors are invited to attend the NSU Foundation’s Senior Tradition Luncheon, which will be held on Wednesday, April 18, at noon at the NSU Student Center. Seniors will enjoy a complimentary lunch, learn about the NSU Alumni Association, and will be invited to join a long-standing Northern tradition. Fall Cheer Team Tryouts
Tryouts will be 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 21, at the NSU Barnett Center, 15th Avenue Southeast. Tryouts will consist of:

- 1 8-Count Dance
- Basic Tumbling
- Basic Stunting
- Jumps
- 2 Required: Toe Touch and Pike
with Punch Approach - 2 of Participants Choice

Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony Concert
The Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony will perform the closing concert of its 98th Season on Saturday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater in the Johnson Fine Arts Center. The theme of the program is “War and Peace” and includes music by Handel, Haydn, and Tchaikovsky as well as music from films in the Star Wars series, “Dunkirk”, and the video game World of Warcraft. The Symphony will be joined by the NSU Concert Choir, the Aberdeen Community Chorus, and members of the brass section of the NSU Symphonic Band. Tickets for the concert are $18 for adults. All students are admitted free of charge. Tickets are available online, or at the JFAC box office, which is open from noon-4:00 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and two hours before concert time. ‘A Writer Reads’ Capstone Event
At the capstone event, students taking fiction writing will give a reading of their work. This will take place in the Williams Library Round Room from 4 to 4:45 p.m. April 26. “A Writer Reads” events are sponsored by funding from the South Dakota Humanities Council. Confucius Institute Music Lesson Series Continues
Join the Confucius Institute for free introductory group lessons in traditional Chinese performing arts. This semester we feature the erhu, a Chinese two-stringed fiddle, which will be taught by Chinese exchange student Yaxuan Ji. No experience is necessary! Lessons run weekly on Mondays at 2-3 p.m. and 3-4 p.m. until April 9 in the Student Center by the ping pong table. The program is open to all NSU students, faculty and staff. Refreshments will be served!
Greenhouse Worker Needed
The NSU Greenhouse is seeking a student worker for the summer. The individual must live in the Aberdeen area as the primary responsibility will be watering plants (including on some weekends). Taekwondo Club Meeting Tuesday
The NSU Taekwondo Club will be meeting every Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. upstairs in the Dacotah Hall Gym. Anyone is free to attend. Workout clothes are recommended. No prior experience is necessary.

Do you live on campus and want to make a difference in the residence halls? Join RHA (Residence Hall Association) today! We meet every Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Student Center Maroon Room. Cru Bible Study held every Tuesday
Cru will be having Bible study every Tuesday at 8 p.m. in MJ101. Cru, formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ, is a student group passionate about connecting people to Jesus Christ. All are welcome to join – people who aren't sure what they believe, people who are curious about their faith, people who are new believers, and people who are strong in their faith. The group will be answering questions such as, "Is there more to life than this?"; "Why did Jesus die?"; "How and why should I read the Bible?"; and many others.
Jazz and Chess Night
Jazz and Chess Night takes place Wednesdays at the NSU Dining Hall. Chess sets are available at 5 p.m. Music will start around 5:30. For more information, contact Art Marmorstein at 605-626-2608 or marmorsa@northern.edu.
YOGA Classes
Yoga classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the upper studio room in Dacotah gym. The classes, sponsored by wellness, are open to all NSU students, faculty and staff.
