Wolf Shoppe 6 Days of Christmas Sale

‘Chromebooks in the Classroom’

On Dec. 3, the Williams Library Creation Lab will host an event, “Chromebooks in the Classroom,” at 4 p.m. Come learn about Chromebooks and how they are being used in the classroom! This event is open to all NSU students, faculty and stuff.

American Indian Circle Program Cultural Education is First Tuesday of the Month

Northern is dedicated to the recognition of tribal traditions and ceremonies that complement the holistic well-being of American Indian and Alaska Native students. The first Tuesday of every month from 12:15-12:30 p.m. we come together in Spafford 106 and have cultural education time to talk about what smudging is, the importance it symbolizes in Indigenous culture and a time of reflection. The American Indian Circle Program would like to invite the NSU campus community to come and participate in our monthly Smudge. Everyone is welcome!

Fall 2019 Noon Forums

NSU’s fall 2019 Noon Forums take place on Wednesdays at noon in the NSU Williams Library Round Room. The final topic of the semester is  “The State of the State Budget” on Dec. 4, presented by Julie Johnson. Noon forums are open to all who are interested – students, staff and the public. Katie Olson Senior Art Exhibition Reception

“Visual Lit,” the senior art exhibition for NSU student Katie Olson, will be on display in Williams Library from Monday, Dec. 2-Saturday, Dec. 14. A reception will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in the library. While Olson’s artwork may appear to consist of many separate styles and techniques, all pieces share one common thread, according to her artist statement: They are woven from the threads of literature.

Daae An Senior Art Exhibition Reception

A reception for NSU student Daae An’s senior art exhibition will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in the Student Center. The exhibition, which will be on display Dec. 1-15, will include jewelry, textile design, motion graphic and graphic design. An is interested in experimental graphics and diverse media.

NSU Choral Winter Program

The Northern State University Choral Winter Program will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Kline St. The concert will feature performances by the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and Early Music Ensemble, conducted by Drs. Timothy Woods and Wendy van Gent. Tickets for adults are a suggested donation of $5 for the NSU Music Scholarship Program. Students are admitted for free.

Pre-Med Club Blood Drive

The Pre-Med Club is sponsoring a blood drive on Friday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Centennial Room of the Student Center. Email George.nora@northern.edu or visit www.vitalant.org to schedule a time for donation. Walk-ins are welcome!

Volunteer Opportunity: Salvation Army

The Salvation Army will be providing a bell-ringing station at the Barnett Center for the Dec. 6-7 home basketball games. They’d like to get NSU students, faculty and staff to volunteer to ring bells. If you are interested, please follow these instructions:

  1. Register online here
  2. Enter Wolves in the Group Code box and click "GO"
  3. NSU - Wachs Arena should show up. Click the down arrow to view the shifts.
  4. Click which shift(s) you want and click "Select Shifts."
  5. Complete the process by creating an individual volunteer account.

Graduation Cap Decorating Party

On Dec. 9, the Williams Library Creation Lab will host a graduation cap decorating party at 4 p.m. All NSU graduating students are invited to attend. Crafting supplies will be available!

Winter Holidays Around the World

This year, the Student Center is looking to celebrate Winter Holidays Around the World. They will be decorating the Student Center to represent various holiday traditions. If you celebrate a religious or cultural holiday that you would like to see represented in the Student Center Mall, please contact Megan Frewaldt at megan.frewaldt@northern.edu. Let us learn about and celebrate our holiday traditions!

‘The Spirit of Prairie Life’ Exhibition

Artist Jessie Rasche’s “The Spirit of Prairie Life” exhibition will be on display in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery through Jan. 3, 2020. Rasche uses a colorful palette and bold brushstrokes to depict scenes of prairie life. Fields of cows, horses and other wildlife enveloped in dynamic Midwestern landscapes are her primary subject matter. Reception for “The Spirit of Prairie Life” will be held on Dec. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information about Rasche’s exhibition, please contact NSU Lecturer of Art and Northern Galleries Director Alexis Doerr at alexis.doerr@northern.edu.

NSU-Primrose Arts and Lecture Series

The 2019-20 NSU-Primrose Arts and Lecture Series will take place Tuesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. throughout the academic year at Aberdeen's Primrose Retirement Community, located at 1701 Third Avenue S.E. Presenters and topics are as follows:

Feb. 11: "The Worst Hard Times: The 1930s Depression in South Dakota"; presented by Dr. Ric Dias, Professor of History.

March 10: "Jazz through the Decades"; presented by Mr. Fritz Hemke, Assistant Professor of Music.

April 14: "Talkin’ like the Bard:  Demystifying Shakespeare’s Language"; presented by Dr. Kane Anderson, Assistant Professor of Theatre.

Spring Break Power Outage Planned

There is an essential campus power outage scheduled for the weekend of March 7-8, 2020 (spring break). We ask that you please begin the process of planning for how this outage may affect your individual areas and students. More information on the outage will be shared after the holidays.

Save the Date: Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity Forum

The annual NSU Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity Forum is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, 2020. All students participating in scholarly activity are invited to participate. Registration details to be announced in January.

Students: If you have a senior recital or art exhibition coming up, please fill out a form so NSU Communications and Marketing can help you promote your event. NSU Athletics offers the following ticket pricing for Northern faculty and staff:

  • 50 percent off single-game general admission ticket (price varies with each event)
  • Buy one at regular price, get one free general admission season ticket (soccer, volleyball, football, wrestling, men’s and women’s basketball are all ticketed)             
    • Regular price: $300
  • 50 percent off reserved season tickets (section A only – chair back seats for basketball)
    • Regular price: $400
    • Faculty/staff price: $200
    • You will receive a Wolves Club season ticket book with individual tickets for each game!
    • Faculty with children can have adjacent chair back seats (in section A) reserved for their kids upon signing them up for Wolves Buddies - $40 per child, $99 for three or more kids.
