Dean of Education Candidates
Candidates for our new dean of the Millicent Atkins School of Education will be on campus next week. Presentations to the Northern campus community are planned as follows:

Student Seminar: ‘Tracking Your Business’
On Monday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m., Kelly Weaver will present “Tracking Your Business – QuickBooks,” in JFAC117. This presentation, which is open to all, is part of a series of “Investing in Yourself Student Seminars” taking place this month, sponsored by PBL/Business Club and the School of Business. Future Student Seminars are planned as follows:

‘Gaming Through Life’
Students in Northern’s public relations class are hosting an awareness event for the sociology program. “Gaming Through Life” will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the lobby of Great Plains East residence hall. Attendees can learn about Northern’s sociology program while eating pizza and playing video games. All students are welcome to this free event.
Community Chinese Classes
The NSU Confucius Institute is offering community Chinese courses through Nov. 19. Youth classes take place 3:15-4:15 p.m. Tuesdays, and adult classes take place 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays. All classes are held in NSU’s Lincoln Hall, room 330. Cost is $20 per student. For more information or to register, call 605-626-3293 or email confucius@northern.edu.
Northern Lights Accepting Submissions
Northern Lights, the campus literary magazine, is accepting submissions and will have a tabling event in the Student Center mall on Nov. 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The submissions can be anything from short stories to personal essays to art work. You don't need to be an English or art major/minor to submit work, you just need a passion for creativity. Submissions will be accepted until Dec. 1, and with magazine will be released next semester. To submit work, email northernlights@northern.edu.
Senior Tradition Luncheon
The NSU Foundation and Alumni Association’s Senior Tradition Luncheon, hosted for all graduating seniors, will take place at noon Nov. 20 in Student Center Centennial Rooms C and D. Graduating seniors should plan to attend this event to learn about the Alumni Association they are about to join, how to continue to be a part of NSU and how to stay in touch with fellow alumni!
Fall 2019 Noon Forums
NSU’s fall 2019 Noon Forums continue on Wednesdays at noon in the NSU Williams Library Round Room. This week’s topic is “Teaching with Business Cases in Chinese Classrooms: Pains and Gains” on Nov. 21, led by Jiang Changsheng. Future topics are:

PBL/Business Club Networking Event
The PBL/Business Club is sponsoring a networking event on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 6:45 p.m. in the Lincoln Gallery. This will be followed by a presentation by Bob Rowe, CEO of Northwestern Corporation at 7:15 p.m. All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.

Multicultural Forum
Project Pengyou is hosting their second Multicultural Forum of the semester on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the Missouri River Room. The theme is Holidays Around The World. We will have guest speakers and FREE FOOD. All are welcome!
Environmental Club Bake Sale
Environmental Club is putting on a Bake Sale on Friday, Nov. 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will have a table set up in the Student Center Lobby and will be walking around to the offices to sell autumn-themed treats (cookies, cupcakes, and pies). Remember to have cash!
Winter Holidays Around the World
This year, the Student Center is looking to celebrate Winter Holidays Around the World. They will be decorating the Student Center to represent various holiday traditions. If you celebrate a religious or cultural holiday that you would like to see represented in the Student Center Mall, please contact Megan Frewaldt at megan.frewaldt@northern.edu. Let us learn about and celebrate our holiday traditions!
Woolever Senior Recital
Jennem Woolever will have her senior recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, in the Krikac Auditorium on campus. Woolever will perform “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Phillip Sousa, “Syrinx” by Claude Debussy, “Cantabile et Presto” by George Enescu, “Concerto in A Minor for Piccolo Movement 1” by Antonio Vivaldi and “The Entertainer” by Scott Joplin. Also performing will be Grace Gasperich.
Moscow Ballet Brings ‘Gift of Christmas Tour’ to NSU this November
Tickets are on sale now for the fourth annual performance of the Great Russian Nutcracker at Northern State University. Moscow Ballet will bring the “Gift of Christmas Tour” to Aberdeen at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater. The performance will bring holiday magic to life, creating unforgettable memories for all ages. Tickets may be purchased online at the NSU Fine Arts Department webpage.
Volunteer Opportunity: Salvation Army
The Salvation Army will be providing a bell-ringing station at the Barnett Center for the Dec. 6-7 home basketball games. They’d like to get NSU students, faculty and staff to volunteer to ring bells. If you are interested, please follow these instructions:

‘The Spirit of Prairie Life’ Exhibition
Artist Jessie Rasche’s “The Spirit of Prairie Life” exhibition will be on display in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery through Jan. 3, 2020. Rasche uses a colorful palette and bold brushstrokes to depict scenes of prairie life. Fields of cows, horses and other wildlife enveloped in dynamic Midwestern landscapes are her primary subject matter. Reception for “The Spirit of Prairie Life” will be held on Dec. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information about Rasche’s exhibition, please contact NSU Lecturer of Art and Northern Galleries Director Alexis Doerr at alexis.doerr@northern.edu.
American Indian Circle Program Cultural Education is First Tuesday of the Month
Northern is dedicated to the recognition of tribal traditions and ceremonies that complement the holistic well-being of American Indian and Alaska Native students. The first Tuesday of every month from 12:15-12:30 p.m. we come together in Spafford 106 and have cultural education time to talk about what smudging is, the importance it symbolizes in Indigenous culture and a time of reflection. The American Indian Circle Program would like to invite the NSU campus community to come and participate in our monthly Smudge. Everyone is welcome!
Update from NSU Recreation
Yoga is offered every Tuesday and Thursday in Dacotah Gym lower studio at 5:30 p.m. Taekwondo is offered to students every Wednesday in Dacotah Gym upper studio at 5:30. Zumba is offered every Monday and Wednesday in Dacotah Gym lower studio at 5:30. Open swim hours at the pool in the Barnett Center are noon-1pm Monday through Thursday, 7:30-9 a.m. and 8:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Co-ed volleyball league starts Nov. 10 and will run into December; sign your team up on IMLeagues or email your information to nsuim@northern.edu. Winner of the co-ed volleyball league will receive Northern beanies. E-gaming is also coming up with Fortnite on Nov. 23.

NSU-Primrose Arts and Lecture Series
The 2019-20 NSU-Primrose Arts and Lecture Series will take place Tuesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. throughout the academic year at Aberdeen's Primrose Retirement Community, located at 1701 Third Avenue S.E. Presenters and topics are as follows:
Feb. 11: "The Worst Hard Times: The 1930s Depression in South Dakota"; presented by Dr. Ric Dias, Professor of History.
March 10: "Jazz through the Decades"; presented by Mr. Fritz Hemke, Assistant Professor of Music.
April 14: "Talkin’ like the Bard: Demystifying Shakespeare’s Language"; presented by Dr. Kane Anderson, Assistant Professor of Theatre.
Spring Break Power Outage Planned
There is an essential campus power outage scheduled for the weekend of March 7-8, 2020 (spring break). We ask that you please begin the process of planning for how this outage may affect your individual areas and students. More information on the outage will be shared after the holidays.
Save the Date: Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity Forum
The annual NSU Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity Forum is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, 2020. All students participating in scholarly activity are invited to participate. Registration details to be announced in January.

- 50 percent off single-game general admission ticket (price varies with each event)
- Buy one at regular price, get one free general admission season ticket (soccer, volleyball, football, wrestling, men’s and women’s basketball are all ticketed)
- Regular price: $300
- 50 percent off reserved season tickets (section A only – chair back seats for basketball)
- Regular price: $400
- Faculty/staff price: $200
- You will receive a Wolves Club season ticket book with individual tickets for each game!
- Faculty with children can have adjacent chair back seats (in section A) reserved for their kids upon signing them up for Wolves Buddies - $40 per child, $99 for three or more kids.
