Rules to Remember

  • Library users MUST have and show valid NSU credentials to check out materials.
  • Report lost credentials to the library immediately. If you fail to report the loss, you will be responsible for items checked out in your name.

Borrowing and Fees

You must have valid NSU credentials or active K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library card and be over 18 years old to borrow materials from Williams Library.

Undergraduates

  • For NSU items:
    • You will be charged the replacement cost along with a non-refundable service fee when an item is 28 days overdue, for each item overdue.
  • For returnable interlibrary loan items:
    • Due dates vary
    • Overdue fines are $1 per day

Graduate Students, Adjunct Faculty, and University Staff

  • For NSU items:
    • You will be charged the replacement cost along with a non-refundable service fee when an item is 28 days overdue, for each item overdue.
  • For returnable interlibrary loan items:
    • Due dates vary
    • Overdue fines are $1 per day

Faculty

  •  For NSU items:
    • You will be charged the replacement cost along with a non-refundable service fee when an item is 28 days overdue, for each item overdue.
  • For returnable interlibrary loan items:
    • Due dates vary
    • Overdue fines are $1 per day

NSU Guests and External Borrowers

(Those using a library card not issued by NSU)

  • For NSU items:
    • Two-week checkout
    • Loan limit of 20 items
    • You will be charged the replacement cost along with a non-refundable service fee when an item is 28 days overdue, for each item overdue.
  • Interlibrary loan service is not available for NSU guests or external borrowers.

 

These items may not leave the library

  • Archives materials
  • Microforms
  • Individual issues of magazines, journals, or newspapers
  • Reference books

 

Reserves

Reserve items held behind the Circulation Desk are usually intended for use by students in a specific class/section.

  • Valid NSU credentials are required to use these items.
  • Items are not to leave the library, unless specified by the professor.
  • Fines: You will be charged the replacement cost along with a non-refundable service fee when an item is one day overdue, for each item overdue.

Remember: You MUST have valid NSU credentials with you to check out reserve items.

 

Holds

  • Ask at the Circulation Desk to be placed on a waiting list for items currently checked out by another patron. Hold requests may also be placed online via the library catalog.
  • You will receive a notice when the item becomes available.
  • Items on hold may be picked up at the Circulation Desk.

 

Recalled Items

  • If you receive a recall notice, it means the item you are using has been requested by another patron.
  • Recalled items are due on the date indicated on the recall notice.
  • Recalled items are not eligible for renewal.

 

Renewals

Most items may be renewed as often as needed, up to 180 days. Exceptions include:

  • Overdue items
  • Items which another patron has requested (placed a hold on)
  • Reserve items

For NSU items:

  • Renewals can be done over the phone. Call 626-2645.
  • Renewals can be done online in the library catalog. Log into your account with your NSU email address and password.

For returnable interlibrary loan items:

  • Renewals depend upon the lending library’s policy.
  • To renew an interlibrary loan, contact an NSU librarian.

 

Interlibrary Loans

Interlibrary loan is the process by which materials are borrowed on your behalf from another library. Learn more and find forms at interlibrary loan.

  • Request items online via the library catalog.
  • Only NSU students, staff and faculty are allowed to request interlibrary loan materials.
  • Allow one to four weeks for delivery.
  • Journal articles/photocopies are sent via email (rarely via campus/USPS mail).
  • Pick up/check out items at the Circulation Desk.
  • Renewals depend upon the lending library’s policy. Check with an NSU librarian to request a renewal.
  • Overdue fines are $1 per day.
