NSU’s Schaff to present lecture on computing politics at Dakota State University

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s Dr. Jon Schaff will present a lecture on computing politics on Monday, March 18, at Dakota State University in Madison.

Schaff, NSU professor of political science/department chair, will deliver the lecture in DSU’s East Hall 101. The event is free and open to the public.

NSU presents Spring 2019 ‘A Writer Reads’ Events

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s spring 2019 “A Writer Reads” series will feature readings by two visiting writers, two NSU English faculty members, as well as readings by students from NSU’s creative writing and poetry course in the Williams Library Round Room.

Events will take place on the following dates:

Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 4:30 p.m.: Author Barbara Duffey of Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell will offer readings of her written poetry. Her most recent published book is titled “Simple Machines.”

Rutter, Steinley receive NSU Undergraduate Competitive Research Grant

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University students Madison Rutter and Shayla Steinley have recently been chosen as recipients of an NSU Undergraduate Competitive Research Grant.

Rutter and Steinley’s project is titled “The Effects of CRISPER Cas-9 System on Progeny of Hereditary Parkinson's Disease in C. elegans.”

Steinley is a junior biology major with minors in chemistry and psychology from Lakeville, Minn. She is a member of the NSU softball team and is involved in the honors program and SAAC.

3M Foundation grants $25,000 to NSU Regional Science Education Center

3M grant for NSU Regional Science Education Center

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The 3M Foundation has awarded a $25,000 grant to the Northern State University Harvey C. Jewett IV Regional Science Education Center.

Aberdeen 3M Plant Manager Allen Chasteen said the company is happy to continue to strengthen its relationship with Northern – and to support a project that is good for students and the community. Chasteen said the science center is in line with 3M’s 110-plus years of fostering a culture of science and innovation.

NSU names Regional Science Education Center after Jewett

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s new state-of-the-art science center will be named after a longtime regent who was instrumental in securing approval for the facility.

The Harvey C. Jewett IV Regional Science Education Center, currently under construction on the Northern campus, will open for the fall 2019 semester. The South Dakota Board of Regents approved the facility’s name at its meeting today at NSU.

Wells Fargo awards grant to NSU Regional Science Education Center

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Wells Fargo has awarded a grant to Northern State University’s Regional Science Education Center that will fund an educational garden containing plants native to the Dakotas.

The Wells Fargo Indigenous Plants Research Garden will be located south of the student entrance of the science center, near the new greenhouse and visible from the parking lot adjacent to the Johnson Fine Arts Center.

NSU Winter Commencement set for Saturday, Dec. 8

ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Saturday, Dec. 8, 108 students will graduate from Northern State University at its 2018 winter commencement.

The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center.

Delivering the commencement address will be NSU Associate Professor of English Dr. Peter Ramey, Northern’s 2018 Outstanding Faculty Award winner. Saturday’s student speaker will be 2018-19 Student Association President Shanae Doerr.
