ABERDEEN, S.D. – About 220 middle and high school students from northeast South Dakota will be on the Northern State University campus on Wednesday, March 18, for the National History Day regional competition.

Students will present research projects as part of the competition, which will run from 8 a.m. to noon in the NSU Student Center and Missouri River Room.

NSU First-Year Seminar Program strives to help students succeed in college

ABERDEEN, S.D. – New students coming to college for the first time are looking for connections – for some, it can mean the difference between staying or leaving.

That’s where Northern State University’s First-Year Seminar Program comes in. 

The program strives to provide connections for new students, said Dr. Liz Sills, making them feel at home so that they want to stay and learn.

NSU’s Johnson receives Distinguished Service Award from SDSU College of Nursing

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University Academic Advisor Rebeccah (Becca) Johnson has received the 2019 Distinguished Service Award from the South Dakota State University College of Nursing.

Johnson was recognized at a ceremony for accelerated nursing graduates held on the NSU campus in December. She received the award for her efforts supporting the SDSU College of Nursing accelerated program, housed in Aberdeen, according to an SDSU news article.

Regents approve NSU academic program requests to develop workforce

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –The South Dakota Board of Regents this week approved new academic programs for Northern State University to meet emerging workforce and economic development trends statewide. 

A graduate certificate in behavioral and justice studies at Northern will offer enhanced preparation for professionals working in counseling, police or law enforcement, social work, psychology, and related fields.

NSU Winter Commencement set for Saturday, Dec. 14

ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Saturday, Dec. 14, 83 students will graduate from Northern State University at its 2019 winter commencement.

The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center.

Delivering the commencement address will be NSU Associate Professor of English Dr. Lysbeth Benkert-Ramsussen. Student speaker will be NSU Student Association President Harrison Bruns. Longtime Aberdeen businessman and Northern supporter Patrick Teal will receive an honorary degree during the ceremony.
