After graduating from Northern, Brian Schutt went to work building custom homes in Dallas but soon, concerns over the economy prompted him to seek a more steady job.

Schutt was also remodeling homes on the side with a Dallas County District Attorney Investigator, who suggested he hire on with a police department.

Campus visits resume June 15 at Northern State University

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Starting next week, Northern State University will begin offering campus visits to prospective students and their families on a limited basis.

Personalized, on-campus visits resume on Monday, June 15, with two visits offered each day. Visitors can get a first-hand look at life at Northern, including touring campus and meeting with faculty and staff.

Students awarded Undergraduate Competitive Research Grants

ABERDEEN, S.D. – In addition to quality courses ensuring they are well-prepared for their future after college, many Northern State University students have the opportunity to put what they learn in the classroom into practice via independent research projects. Northern’s Undergraduate Competitive Research Grant has been funding some of those student research projects since 2012.

This year, three NSU students were awarded grants to fund their research:

Schaff awarded National Endowment for the Humanities research grant

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University Professor of Political Science Dr. Jon Schaff has been awarded a competitive research grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The NEH grant will fund Schaff’s research project, tentatively titled, “A More Perfect Union: Jefferson, Hamilton, and Lincoln and America's Unfinished Work,” as well as its publication.

Brownfield, Mitchell receive 2020 NSU Outstanding Faculty Awards

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has named Drs. Kristi Brownfield and Jon Mitchell winners of this year’s Outstanding Faculty Awards.

This is the first year the award has included two categories. Mitchell, associate professor of biology, is the 2020 Foundation Faculty Excellence Award winner. Brownfield, assistant professor of sociology, is the 2020 Outstanding Early Career Faculty Award winner.
