  • NSU Concerto-Aria Competition winners announced

    ABERDEEN, S.D. – Winners have been announced for the 2022 Northern State University Concerto-Aria Competition.   Megan Dockter of Watertown was named instrumental winner, and Eli Houdyshell of Pierre was named vocal winner.   Dockter, who plays the clarinet, is a student of Dr. Audrey Miller. She performed Scott McAllister’s X Concerto, 2nd Movement: “To the Pines… To the Pines.”   Houdyshell, a tenor, is a student of Mr. Michael Skyles.   • Reception for student art exhibition, ‘More Than a Body,’ set for Dec. 3 at NSU

    ABERDEEN, SD – Northern State University student Gabby Grieme’s senior art exhibition will be on display Nov. 18-Dec 18 in Gallery X, located in room 106 of the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center.   A reception for her exhibition, titled “More Than a Body,” will take place 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 3 in Gallery X. “More Than a Body” consists of digital illustrations that aim to deconstruct societal gender norms, beauty standards and sexual objectification of women.   Grieme, a digital media major with a graphic design emphasis, was a spring 2022 recipient of the Northern Edge Award.   • NSU students will vie for cash prizes in Idea Pitch Competition

    ABERDEEN, SD – Northern State University students will compete shark tank-style this week at the NSU Idea Pitch Competition—and the winner will take home $500 cash.   The competition, which is open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in Northern’s Lincoln Gallery. Five student teams will pitch their ideas to four community judges.   • Partnership leads to scholarship funds, hands-on learning for NSU students

    ABERDEEN, S.D. – An exhibition by Northern State University student Kai Brisk is currently on display in Gallery X, located in room 106 of the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center. The exhibition, which will be on display through Nov. 14, includes artwork featuring his interpretation of techniques and styles he learned about during his artist residency in Greece.     ABERDEEN, SD – Northern State University Vice President of Enrollment, Communications and Marketing Justin Fraase has accepted a Senior Director of Strategic Communications position at the University of Iowa.   Fraase has been at Northern since 2017, leading the Communications and Marketing Department for six years.
