  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University is presenting Wolf Talks this fall in conjunction with the 2020 NSU Larry and Julie Poeppel Family Common Read Lecture.

    The next Wolf Talk will take place at 6:30 p.m. Oct 12 in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater. The talk, titled “Significance of Place,” will be presented by Gordon Tree Top, Standing Rock Tribal member or Hunkpapa Lakota.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – This week, four Northern State University students participated in a regional conference for TRIO professionals.

    Mckenzie Hassebroek of Westport, S.D.; Emma Pulfrey of Alcester, S.D.; Garret Thompson of Logan, Iowa; and Taren Tschetter of Hitchcock, S.D., took part in the virtual Aspire Conference.   • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A new memoir offers a first-hand account of a German man’s life under the Bolshevik Revolution – and it might never have been published without the work of Northern State University’s Dr. Ginny Lewis.

    Lewis, NSU professor of German and literary scholar, translated “Flight from the Red Hell” into English. Now, the memoir – a tale of Heinrich Neuwirt’s survival amidst hardships such as famine and imprisonment – has been published by Peter Lang Publishing.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University saw growth in overall headcount this fall, particularly in graduate students, and experienced its fifth consecutive year with a freshman to sophomore retention rate above 73 percent.

    Northern was the only South Dakota Board of Regents institution to see a growth in headcount during this pandemic year, according to figures released today from the SDBOR. Northern’s fall 2020 headcount is 3,431, above last fall’s 3,427.… more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A new exhibit on display in Northern State University’s Jewett Regional Science Education Center gives a look at epidemics throughout history.

    “Epidemic!” contains information and artifacts related to pandemics/epidemics that affected the Aberdeen area from the 1830s through the 1950s, including diphtheria, typhoid fever, small pox, the flu of 1918 and polio. Items were provided by the Dacotah Prairie Museum, in coordination with NSU Assistant Professor of Biology and STEM Outreach Coordinator Dr. Amy Dolan and graduate assistant Emily Wheeler… more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A husband and wife musical duo will perform an upcoming concert at Northern State University.

    Dr. Kenneth Boulton and JoAnne Barry will present a recital of music for piano four-hands at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A new partnership between Northern State University and Dacotah Bank will guarantee a personal interview for graduates of the NSU Banking and Financial Services program.

    Starting this winter, all students graduating from Northern’s Banking and Financial Services program undergraduate or graduate, online or on campus will be guaranteed an interview at one of Dacotah Bank’s locations.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – An exhibition by a pair of Northern State University Art Department alums is currently on display in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery.

    “This Is Us,” by Lee Leuning and Sherri Treeby, will be on display through Oct. 27. Admission to the exhibition is free, and the gallery is open to the public 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Friday. Due to COVID-19, there will not be an opening reception.
