  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – About 30 Northern State University students collaborated to present marketing and promotional ideas to the United Way of Northeastern South Dakota – including the creation of a new community event and a new educational trail for children.

    Students presented their proposal to the United Way of Northeastern South Dakota Board of Directors on Wednesday, Nov. 15. Hannah Walters, instructor of marketing in the NSU School of Business, said she enjoyed seeing the students apply what they learned in the classroom.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center will be adorned in holiday cheer as the NSU School of Fine Arts hosts its highly anticipated “Holiday Extravaganza” on Tuesday, Dec. 5. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the JFAC Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Choirs will tour eastern South Dakota Nov. 28-29 and hold their “Holiday Home Concert” on Nov. 30 at First Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen.

    The NSU Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Early Musick Ensemble and Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform on tour and the Aberdeen Community Chorus will join the ensembles on their “Holiday Home Concert.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s collaborative project with the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired has already received pledges for donations totaling more than $25 million.

    The figure was announced Saturday at Northern Night, with an official kick-off of the NSU-SDSBVI Educational Impact Campaign. The campaign seeks to raise $45 million total for three connected projects: construction of a new School for the Blind and Visually Impaired; NSU’s athletic… more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – “Know Your Place,” an art exhibition by Northern State University’s Dr. Greg Blair, opens Friday in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery.

    A closing reception is planned for 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5. The event is free and open to the public.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Four Northern State University alums have recently been accepted into the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Vermillion.

    The four NSU alums will join 67 other students comprising the class of 2021. More than 700 individuals applied for admission, according to information from the University of South Dakota.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Sanford Health has pledged $5 million to Northern State University’s Regional Science Education Center to support educational activities and create new student scholarships and permanent endowments.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. –  The 2017 Northern State University Concerto-Aria Competition will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 16, in the Krikac Auditorium.

    The competition is a project of the Aberdeen University/Civic Symphony, administered by Dr. Robert Vodnoy, conductor of the AUCS and professor of strings and music history. Winner(s) of the annual competition will perform with the orchestra at their winter concert on Feb. 21.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Three Northern State University School of Fine Arts students were recognized at the South Dakota Music Teachers Association conference held Nov. 2-4 at the University of South Dakota campus in Vermillion.

    Brady Vandevort of Aberdeen, won the MTNA Young Artist Brass competition. Vandevort plays the euphonium and studies under Dr. Travis Netzer at NSU. Kelly McPhail was his accompanist. Vandevort will advance to the divisional competition at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, Jan. 12-14.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. -  On Friday, Nov. 17, the doors of the historic Ward Hotel will open for the last time for the jazz ensembles of NSU and swing dancers for the fall Swing Dance.

    Doors for the event will open at 6 p.m., with music beginning at 7 p.m. Featured will be the NSU Jazz Combo, directed by Frederic Hemke, the NSU 1 O’clock Jazz Ensemble directed by Dennis McDermott, and the 2 O’Clock Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Grant Manhart.
