  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The South Dakota Board of Regents voted for unanimous approval Thursday of a collaborative project involving Northern State University and the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

    The Regents approved a preliminary facility statement and facility program plan for construction of a new School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. They also approved a facility program plan for NSU’s athletic and recreation fields project, and a preliminary facility statement for an on-campus regional sports complex.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Saturday, Sept. 23, many Northern State University students and employees gave back to the Aberdeen community in support of NSU’s annual Pack Gives Back event.

    The event took place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 23. Following a speech from NSU President Dr. Timothy Downs, students volunteered at five different sites in the community, led by staff group leaders. Businesses/organizations visited included:

  • MADISON, S.D. – A bachelor’s degree in Spanish will be available to students in a fully online format through Northern State University. The South Dakota Board of Regents approved this new delivery option at its meeting this week.

    The request is in response to growing demand for online delivery of Spanish courses already offered at the university, NSU officials said.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – When Northern State University revealed the 2017 Homecoming royalty last week, the university crowned its first international student as marshal.

    Andy Brelu-Brelu is a senior biology major from Mauritius. He was named marshal and Taylor Ellingson, a senior from Stratford, was selected as queen in the Thursday night coronation ceremony in the Johnson Fine Arts Center.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University and the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired are seeking approval on a joint project that will include a new multi-million dollar home for SDSBVI.

    At its meeting next week, the South Dakota Board of Regents will vote on proceeding with construction of a new School for the Blind and Visually Impaired at a cost of $13.7 million. All funds will be privately raised, and the project is a critical step in keeping SDSBVI located in Aberdeen.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Tickets for the Northern State University theater production of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” will go on sale on Monday, Oct. 2.

    The show will be performed nightly at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater from Oct. 18 through 21.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Wolf Shoppe will be selling a throwback line of Waldo merchandise in honor of Gypsy Week.

    This line includes T-shirts and other merchandise that have been highly requested by alumni in recent years when they return for homecoming.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Molly Royals and Tanner Chilson will hold a senior recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in Northern State University’s Krikac Auditorium.

    Royals is the daughter of Nicole and Todd Craig of Rapid City and Stew and Maria Royals of Baltimore, Md. Royals graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 2013.

    Chilson, the son of Sherisse and Steve Chilson, grew up in Watertown, graduating from Watertown High School in 2014.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Student retention continues to increase at Northern State University, with the university’s freshmen to sophomore retention rate climbing to 77 percent this fall after a significant increase last year.

    Also trending upward is Northern’s headcount—the fall 2017 number is 3,611, an increase from 3,587 in fall 2016, according to figures released Wednesday from the South Dakota Board of Regents.
