  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University senior Tessa Durnin recently became the 2017 recipient of the South Dakota Ornithologists’ Union Mary E. Baylor Memorial scholarship.

    Durnin, a biology/environmental science major with a certificate in organismal biology, is the second NSU student in the past three years to receive this scholarship, totaling $1,200. Durnin follows in the footsteps of 2015 recipient and NSU alum Christina Renz.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – An increase in annual grant money for Northern State University’s TRIO Student Support Services program will mean more student scholarships and expanded cultural enrichment programs.

    TRIO Student Support Services, one of two federal TRIO programs at NSU, is funded through a grant that can be reapplied for every five years. While the budget amount is typically $281,000 for each of the five years, this year the program will receive a 2.5 percent increase.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Five Northern State University alumni and one Wolves team will be honored at this year’s NSU Hall of Fame Banquet.

    The banquet, part of Gypsy Days, will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the Dakota Event Center. Cost is $25 for adults and $10 for children.

    Each year, the NSU Alumni Association selects a Kretchman Coaching Award winner and also inducts former Wolves athletes into the NSU Hall of Fame. The 2017 honorees are listed below:

    Constitution Day is the federal observance of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. Several free, fun events are planned at NSU on Monday:

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University Wolves are ready for an adventure with their annual homecoming celebration this month.

    “Wolves Go Adventuring” is the theme of the 102nd annual Gypsy Day Parade, which will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, on Main Street in Aberdeen. Participants will create a float full of adventurous ideas of their choice.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has been recognized among the top regional universities in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report.

    NSU tied for number 99 on the Regional Universities Midwest list on the 2018 rankings, released Tuesday, Sept. 12. That’s up from 103 last year. On the smaller Top Public Schools list within the regional universities category, NSU tied for number 26 in the Midwest – up from 29 last year.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D.  – Northern State University’s International Friendship Family Program is taking applications for families to share their American experience while making students feel welcome in our community.

    Through the NSU Friendship Family Program, international students spend time with their “Friendship Family” doing family things at least once a month and keep in contact weekly. The name “Friendship Family” is used instead of “Host Family” because the students are responsible for themselves financially and generally live on campus.

    The “Pollinator Garden Community Meet and Greet” will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at Kuhnert Arboretum, located south of Melgaard Road. Drs. Alyssa Anderson and Jodie Ramsay will attend, along with NSU biology student interns Tessa Durnin, Sean Kramer and Matt Wiebers.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University School of Fine Arts will unveil the new Yamaha CF III Concert Grand Piano at the annual Faculty Showcase Recital on Thursday, Sept. 14.

    The piano was acquired through a generous gift from Sheila (NSU alum) and Carlyle Richards.

    The showcase will be held in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater, beginning at 7:30 p.m. and features an array of performances by the NSU music faculty.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Jennifer Rogers’ art exhibition titled “Saccharine” will be on display in the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery from Sept. 11 to Nov. 10.

    Rogers is a multi-media installation artist from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her installations are inspired by domestic spaces, natural patterns and complex compositional arrangements and have been exhibited all over the U.S.
