  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student Abigail Arhart will hold her senior recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater.

    Arhart, a soprano, will perform pieces by John Dowland, Carl Maria von Weber, Edvard Grieg, Alfred Bachelet and Roger Quilter. She will be accompanied by Kay Fischer.

    Arhart, the daughter of Diane Arhart of Rapid City, grew up in Fort Pierre, graduating from Stanley County High School in 2018.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Aberdeen University/Civic Symphony, conducted by Dr. Christopher Stanichar, will open its season on Nov. 6 with a concert at Northern State University.

    The concert, which will begin at 7:30 p.m., will take place in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University is looking for participants to join the NSU Film Crew for the Four Points Film Project.

    A strategy meeting for the film project team will take place Thursday, Nov. 11, on the NSU campus. The event will be held at 6 p.m. at Dacotah Hall room 205 and online via Zoom, led by Assistant Professor Jason Knowles from the NSU Art Department.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Thursday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m., the Northern State University Department of Music will present a jazz concert.

    Performing will be the NSU 1 O’ Clock Jazz Ensemble directed by Instructor of Percussion James McKinney, and the NSU 2’ O Clock Jazz Ensemble directed by Dr. Grant Manhart.

    The date of the concert is near the end of the annual fall bird migration, and “Fly into Jazz” is the theme for this concert. The 2 O’ Clock Jazz Ensemble will perform many jazz tunes that reference birds in the title.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University campus organizations joined local and regional entities in commemorating Free Speech Week.

    NSU Student Affairs worked with the Student Government Association, Faculty Senate, the city of Aberdeen and Brown County to officially proclaim Oct. 18-24 as Free Speech Week.

    “I commend our students, faculty and staff for their civic engagement, commitment to the First Amendment and collaboration with community partners,” said NSU President Neal Schnoor.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student Dylan Unruh will hold his senior recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater.

    Unruh, who plays saxophone, will perform “Suite Hellenique” by Pedro Iturralde; “Bassoon Concerto in B-flat major K 191” by Mozart; “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss” by David R. Holsing Arr. Dylan Unruh; and “Diametrically the Same” by Nick Heilborn.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A husband and wife musical duo will perform an upcoming concert at Northern State University.

    Dr. Kenneth Boulton and JoAnne Barry will present a recital of music for two pianos four-hands at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

    Featured on the program will be music by Modest Musorgsky, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Emmanuel Chabrier and Richard Rodney Bennett.
