Professors and staff walk beside you and guide you through the ups and downs of college. Who is a faculty member who has impacted you positively? How?
Dr. Heather Scott is a faculty member who has always been willing to help me whenever I need it. She has helped with questions about her class as well as advising on other classes wherever she can.
New and renovated campus facilities are world-class and inspire you to create. What is your favorite campus facility?
My favorite facility on campus is the Jewett Regional Science Center. Although I am not a science major, the building is very helpful when trying to complete work as there are many lounge areas to sit and work. The view from the science center is a great addition as well!
Northern’s welcoming and safe campus community, student organizations, teams, clubs and programs give you ample opportunities to find your people. Please share a story about what you are involved in and how it has impacted your experience positively.
The track team has been a very positive experience for me on campus. I have made some great friends as well as gotten to go to some pretty cool events. I am also a team captain this year which is a very interesting new role to play on the team. I was also able to be part of a team trip to Myrtle Beach to compete and have fun on spring break. During this trip, I was able to compete in hammer throw for the first time and gain some confidence before the season started.
Aberdeen, South Dakota is a safe and friendly community with a thriving downtown with plenty of opportunities to get involved through the arts, athletics, and outdoor recreation. Please share an example of a time you had fun in Aberdeen:
My favorite thing to do in Aberdeen off-campus is going to Twist Cone with friends. Going to get ice cream at 9 pm is really the move when you need a late night treat to get you through the week.
Professors and staff care about you and are dedicated to helping you learn and grow as a person. Please share a story that relates and how it positively impacted you:
Professors are always willing to help and schedule appointments outside of office hours which is awesome especially when you don't always have time to go during their regular hours.
Your college education is more affordable through stackable financial aid and generous scholarships funded by Northern’s network of alumni and supporters. Please share an example of your experience:
I have had a great experience with scholarships at NSU. Something I think is a cool addition to giving money for scholarships is that we are also able to write a letter to the supporter who has helped to fund the scholarship award.
What is your favorite place off-campus to hang out?
My favorite place off campus to hang out is the Red Rooster, a coffee shop downtown.
What is/are your favorite restaurant(s) or shopping location(s) in Aberdeen?
My favorite restaurant in town is three22. I have fond memories there with friends that I met at NSU as well as dinners with my mom when she has time to visit. My favorite memory of three22 is going there for the first time with my roommate and our teammates after a track meet and laughing at how the day went.
Favorite class you’ve taken here?
My favorite class I have taken here at NSU is Intro Psychology with Dr. Scott. The class had great energy as well as good information. She made sure to do activities that got us out of our seats that pertained to and helped to better understand the material at hand.
A favorite memory with my friends on campus:
My favorite memories with friends are going to games and having dinner together at the Wolves Den. We always went after practice and had a good time talking and eating.

One of my bucket list items is visiting Europe. I want to start in Portugal and move all throughout mid-Europe then travel back to Ireland and end the trip there. The architecture would be a beautiful thing to experience while there.
