New Campus Events Calendar
The new homepage Events Calendar, link found in the footer of northern.edu, is now live. The new Events Calendar contains only public events; the All-Events Calendar is now located in myNSU.
You may request a room by clicking on the Room Request at the bottom of northern.edu (your network/email username and password are required).

Alumni Association Nominations
The NSU Alumni Association is seeking nominations for its highest honor, the Distinguished Alumni Award. Ideal candidates make an impact in their industry and community. The Alumni Association is also seeking nominations for a Northern graduate from the class of 2008-18 who has made an impact for the GOLD (Graduate of the Last Decade) Award. JFAC Gallery Exhibit
Artist Molly Wicks will showcase her ‘New Works’ exhibition in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery through March 9. Wicks’ artwork explores subtractive form and the ghosts of color, working from sedimentary layers, fungus and mold forms, then applying paint to the cuts in wooden panels, which provides an organic grid whose holes refract into shadow harmonies.
Cru Bible Study starts Jan. 16
Starting Jan. 16, Cru will be having Bible study every Tuesday at 8 p.m. in MJ101. Cru, formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ, is a student group passionate about connecting people to Jesus Christ. All are welcome to join – people who aren't sure what they believe, people who are curious about their faith, people who are new believers, and people who are strong in their faith. The group will be answering questions such as, "Is there more to life than this?"; "Why did Jesus die?"; "How and why should I read the Bible?"; and many others.
YOGA Classes
Yoga classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 18 in the upper studio room in Dacotah gym. The classes, sponsored by wellness, are open to all NSU students, faculty and staff.
ZUMBA with Lara and Marilin
Zumba will be taught from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday in the studio room in Dacotah Gym. Classes will run through Feb. 28.
South Dakota Jazz Festival is Jan. 18
The 48th annual South Dakota Jazz Festival will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center. The Jazz Festival brings together more than 180 students from high school jazz groups across South Dakota and the Upper Midwest, featuring competitive and non-competitive categories in vocal jazz, jazz combos and big bands. The event will culminate in a concert at 7:30 p.m. in the JFAC Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater, featuring guest performers The Hornheads. Tickets for the event will be available at the door and are $10 for adults and $5 for NSU faculty and staff. This concert is free for NSU students with ID, as well as directors and students who participated in the festival earlier in the day. The concert is also an Aberdeen Community Concert for those who have purchased tickets to the concert series.
On Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 5-7 p.m., students can text any spiritual question and their on-campus location to 605-610-9392. A student in Cru will bring them a donut and answer their question.
‘Life After Northern’ Event is Jan. 25
The College of Arts and Sciences is sponsoring a series of events for all NSU students under the broad title of “Life After Northern.” The first of these events for the spring 2018 semester is “How to Find a Job and Build a Career.” This session will be held on Thursday, Jan. 25, at 5 p.m. in TC 368. At this session, Britt Lorenz from NSU Career Services will discuss the job application process, including preparing resumes, when to begin the job search, and other related topics. Primrose Arts and Lecture Series: ‘Music for Piano Four-Hands’
The next NSU Primrose Arts and Lecture Series, “Music for Piano Four-Hands” with Dr. Kenneth Boulton and Ms. JoAnne Barry, will take place 2:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at Aberdeen’s Primrose Retirement Community, 1701 Third Ave. S.E. Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony concert: ‘American Visions’
The first Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony concert of the year, “American Visions,” will be Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center. Get tickets here: “American Visions.”
Women’s Business Conference
The Northeastern South Dakota Women's Business Conference will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, March 9. The event, hosted by the South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity, will take place in Aberdeen’s Ramkota Hotel, 1400 Eighth Ave. N.W.
