Visitor Parking

Free visitor parking is available in these locations:

  • Washington Street and any other city streets surrounding campus unless otherwise marked
  • Washington Street parking lot, west of Williams Library (designated spots only)
  • By Dacotah Hall and the Johnson Fine Arts Center

If you are visiting campus as a guest speaker or presenter, please contact the Parking Office or your campus host about parking validation.

 

WHEN SPRING AND FALL CLASSES ARE IN SESSION

Free on-street parking is available on Washington Street and any other city streets surrounding campus unless otherwise marked. An NSU parking permit is required for all NSU lots. Permits are available for purchase online only; see "Parking Permits" below.

 

During summers and breaks

During the summer or when classes are not in session, free parking is available in all campus parking lots and on Washington Street and any other city streets surrounding campus, unless otherwise marked.

 

Parking permits

If you are not a campus visitor, a permit is required to park in any parking lot on campus when spring or fall classes are in session. Parking permits are available for purchase below or on myNSU Student and myNSU Faculty/Staff. When purchasing, you'll need to provide your license plate number.

* Beginning spring semester 2023, parking permits will be sold online only. No payments will be accepted at the Parking Office. For more information or assistance, contact the parking office at 605-626-2560 or becky.gilbert@northern.edu.

 

2023 Permits

Purple Permit

This permit costs $67.50 for the spring 2023 semester and allows you to park in any lot except the visitor lot at the northwest corner of the Johnson Fine Arts Center and the visitor spots in the Washington Street lot.

Pick up your permit at the Parking Office on the second floor of the Physical Plant the day after submitting payment online.

Gold Permit

This permit costs $40.50 for the spring 2023 semester and allows you to park in any parking lot except the Washington Street lots, Steele Hall/Great Plains West lot and the visitor lot by the Johnson Fine Arts Center.

Pick up your permit at the Parking Office on the second floor of the Physical Plant the day after submitting payment online.

 

Wolves Memorial Suites and Great Plains West Residents

Residents of Wolves Memorial Suites and Great Plains West who have reserved their permits through Residence Life must pay for and pick them up at the Residence Life office in Avera Student Center 222.

Game-Day Parking

Permits are not valid in the Herret Street, Barnett Center, and other lots as announced when a home football game is scheduled. Vehicles must be removed from those lots by 5:30 p.m. the day before a home football game. Vehicles will be towed at owner's expense.
