High school students can forge a path to success with the college prep program at Northern!

Northern State University and the South Dakota Education Access Foundation (SDEAF) are partnering to offer college preparatory courses in reading, English and math. Courses will be FREE to qualifying high school students!

Basic Writing (ENGL 033)

Pre-College Algebra (MATH 095)

 

What Other Courses Can I Take?

Once you've successfully completed the college prep courses, you can take select college-level courses - still free of charge!

Enroll in English 101 (ENGL 101) – if you satisfactorily complete English 33 (ENGL 033)

Enroll in Math 103 (MATH 103) or Math 114 (MATH 114) – to pass, you will need a grade of C or better.

 

 

How to qualify for the College Prep Program

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a South Dakota high school junior or senior
  • Eligible for or receiving free/reduced school lunch
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.25 or higher

You must also meet one or more of the requirements below:

To enroll in Reading for College Success (READ 041):

  • ACT reading score 15 or below
  • Accuplacer score 199 or below

To enroll in Basic Writing (ENGL 033):

  • ACT English score 17 or below
  • Accuplacer score 262 or below
  • Smarter Balance score 2582 or below

To enroll in Pre-College Algebra (MATH 095):

  • ACT math score 18 or below
  • Math Index of 950 or below
