Northern Lights festival of Norwegian music and poetry to be held Nov. 8-9 at NSU

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The “Northern Lights: Celebrating Grieg, Vinje and Krerulf” festival of Norwegian music and poetry will be held in the Northern State University Krikac Auditorium Nov. 8-9.

Two concerts, a lecture and a brown paper bag discussion will be held throughout the two-day festival featuring the NSU School of Fine Arts’ Drs. Darci Bultema and Marla Fogderud. Guest artists Paul Hindemith and Keith Teepen will also be a part of the festival.

The festival is being hosted by NSU and the Edvard Grieg Society of the Dakotas.

NSU Theater to present ‘Man of La Mancha’

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Theater Department will present the musical "Man of La Mancha" in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

Performances will run at 7:30 p.m. nightly Oct. 17-20.

One of the most honored musicals of the American theater, “Man of La Mancha” was inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ 17th Century masterpiece “Don Quixote.” It received five Tony Awards, including one for best musical play, as well as the Drama Critics Circle Award for best musical.

Weisenburger to have senior recital Oct. 14 at NSU

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Brigette Weisenburger will have her senior recital at 2 p.m. Oct. 14 in Northern State University’s Krikac Auditorium.

Weisenburger, who is pursuing a B.A. in music, plays the piano. She will perform “Sonata in A Major, K331” by W.A. Mozart; “Romanian Folk Dances, Sz. 56” by Bela Bartok; and “Lovesong” by Joseph Suk. The recital is free and open to the public.

Boulton, Barry to hold recital in Krikac Auditorium on Oct. 11

ABERDEEN, S.D. – A husband and wife musical duo will perform an upcoming concert at Northern State University.

Dr. Kenneth Boulton and JoAnne Barry will present a recital of music for piano four-hands at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in NSU’s Krikac Auditorium.

Featured on the program will be music by Emmanuel Chabrier, Florent Schmitt, Edward Elgar and Franz Schubert.

“We are very excited to present a program that combines some rarely performed gems with one of the true monuments of piano duet literature,” said Boulton, NSU dean of fine arts.

Faculty Showcase Recital set for Sept. 13

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s renowned music instructors will show off their talents at the annual NSU School of Fine Arts Faculty Showcase Recital on Thursday, Sept. 13.

The showcase, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater, will feature an array of solo and chamber performances by NSU music faculty. The event is free of charge, though donations will be accepted for the music scholarship fund.
