AUCS Orchestra to Hold ‘Romantic Bouquet’ Concert in February

ABERDEEN, S.D. – In February, the Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony (AUCS) Orchestra will be holding their concert, titled “Romantic Bouquet.”

The concert will take place in the Jewett Theater in the Johnson Fine Arts Center on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be orchestrated by NSU visiting professor of music and director, Christopher Stanichar, and will feature four themed pieces, one written by Stanichar titled “Sunflowers.”

Dietz art exhibition to be displayed in NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery through the end of March

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Artist Alicia Dietz’s “Collective Cadence” exhibition will be on display in the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery from Feb. 4 through March 29.

An opening reception for the exhibition will be held in the JFAC Gallery from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 4.

NSU Opera presents Michael Ching's “Speed Dating Tonight”

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University Opera will present the dinner and show event, Michael Ching’s “Speed Dating Tonight!”

This comic, one-act opera was conceived after a conversation with character tenor and stage director, Dean Anthony and premiered in 2013. The opera doesn’t include any actual speed dating, but is meant to reflect the real-life quirks of modern dating and is comprised of 90-second “dates” which are brief arias and duets. 

NSU to host ‘Teepen-Sugiura Piano Duo: Piano Romantics Plus’ recital Jan. 9

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will host a piano duo recital from two pianists on the faculty at the University of North Dakota.

“Teepen-Sugiura Piano Duo: Piano Romantics Plus” will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater. The performance, which is free and open to the public, will feature international concert artists Nariaki Sugiura and Keith Teepen.

NSU School of Fine Arts to hold Young Artist Competition, Scholarship Invitational

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University School of Fine Arts will hold two scholarship events this winter for high school students – including a brand new arts competition.

The new NSU Young Artist Competition will take place Saturday, Jan. 5, and the annual School of Fine Arts Scholarship Invitational will be held Feb. 22-23. Both events will take place in the Johnson Fine Arts Center.

Northern State University 2004 graduate Doug Woolverton, an international touring musician and composer, has joined the E.K. Blessing family of artists.

The Northern State University Theater Department’s fall 2018 musical, "Man of La Mancha" was one of the final Northern productions to be directed by longtime NSU Theater Director Daniel Yurgaitis.

Yurgaitis will retire at the end of this academic year after nearly 50 years of directing and theater work.

“Man of La Mancha” was performed Oct. 17-20 in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.
