Collage-like artwork by student

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student Sasha Andrews will have her Senior Art Exhibition on display Nov. 15-Dec. 3 in the NSU President’s Gallery.

Andrews will hold a public reception at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 19 in the President’s Gallery, located on the second floor of Spafford Hall.

“The type of artwork that I will have on display consists of bright life moments,” Andrews said. “The feel good art pieces that are relatable to the viewer such as moments like senior portraits, ‘the big day,’ couple sessions and other graphic design works. They are full of light and bright colors.”

Andrews, the daughter of Mabel and James Andrews, grew up in Lake Preston, graduating from Lake Preston High School in 2018.

At Northern, she is majoring in art with an emphasis in graphic design. She has studied with art faculty members Alexis Doerr and Nadya Preszler.

Andrews said she chose Northern because, growing up, her family often visited Aberdeen since her uncle lived here.

“Visiting Aberdeen always felt like home and magical with Storybook Land and the community built in Aberdeen itself,” she said.

When it came time to choose a college during high school, she at first chose a Minnesota university—but she decided to transfer to Northern beginning her sophomore year.

“The reason I transferred was because I heard how great the art department was at Northern, and I knew that Aberdeen and NSU were always meant to be my home,” she said. “I have loved my time at Northern, and all the art department faculty have made my time at Northern special with really wanting to push you to be the best artist you can be while giving you the tools and assistance you need to be successful!”

Andrews will graduate in December 2021. Her future plans are to continue designing and building up her photography skills.
