ABERDEEN, S.D. – Three out of the four recipients of this year’s Top 4 under 40 are Northern State University alumni. This is the second year the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce has hosted this program in order to recognize the efforts of young leaders in our community and region. Those recognized were Ashley Hansen, Fallon Helm, Kerry Konda, and Aaron Smith.

Helm, Konda and Smith are all Northern graduates.

“On behalf of the NSU Alumni Association, congratulations on your significant community achievement. Your hard work and determination have gotten you to where you are now,” said Kayley Johnson, Northern director of alumni services.

Helm, owner of Revive Day Spa, graduated in 2008 with a bachelor’s in management, finance and economics.

Konda, Central High School teacher and debate team coach, earned a bachelor’s degree of education in speech communication in 2007, a bachelor’s degree of education in social science and history in 2008, and a master’s degree in education in leadership and administration in 2014.

Smith, president of the Aberdeen Wings, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport marketing and administration in 2011 and then earned a master’s degree in education in educational studies in 2014.

This year, the Chamber had 26 candidates. To be considered, candidates had to be nominated by someone in the community and meet the qualifications: between the ages of 21-39, a Brown County resident, exemplify the qualities of a true leader, impact the community and region for the better, and make the community a better place due to their presence.

“Thank you for being an inspiration to all NSU Alumni, current NSU students, and residents of the Aberdeen community,” Johnson said. “We are proud of your accomplishments! Go Wolves!”
