ABERDEEN, SD -  Northern State University will host the 64th annual Mathematics Contest at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 19 in the Barnett Center.

The contest will feature four divisions: Elementary Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra and Senior Math. NSU mathematic faculty members Dr. A. S. Elkhader, Dr. Ricardo Rojas, Dr. Margaret Adams and Dr. Stacy Trentham will be responsible for constructing tests for each of the four contest divisions.

Following the contest, an awards ceremony will take place in the upstairs gym of the Barnett Center at 1 p.m. Individual awards will be given to those placing first through fifth place in each division. A traveling trophy will be presented to the school with the highest percentage combined score in each division. Plaques will be awarded to the coaches of students who received first place in their division.

Contestants are regularly enrolled students from representing schools. Each school may enter as many contestants in each division as desired. No students, however, are allowed to enter more than one division or compete in the same contest division more than once.

Contest director, Elkhader, anticipates “roughly 800 contestants from approximately 50 area schools will participate in the event.”

The contest is not open to the public, but they are encouraged to attend the awards ceremony.
