ABERDEEN, S.D. – Sixteen Northern State University School of Business students competed at the 2019 Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Competition March 22-23 in Bismarck, N.D., all of whom qualified for the 2019 National PBL Conference in June.

NSU students received first-place honors in 14 different events, second-place honors in 10 events and third-place honors in seven events at the North Dakota competition.

"This is our second year attending the N.D. State PBL competition and each year we have been able to really grow as a chapter,” said Haley Grandpre, an NSU student/PBL member from Conde. “I really think when you think of all of the awards we won that it just attests to the hard work the chapter and club do throughout the year and how great our students are inside of our chapter! “We have amazing students in the School of Business and it is always fun to see how well they compete, but it goes beyond that. They are wonderful individuals as well,” said Dr. Kristi Bockorny, co-advisor of NSU’s PBL chapter. “Dr. Mathern and I are very proud of the performance of our students, as well as how they represented NSU in their actions and behaviors.”

PBL offers students opportunities to build their own skills and abilities to foster a more successful future in the professional world.

“PBL focuses on empowering students with the skills and abilities needed to take them to the next level in their academic and professional careers, and encouraging them to ‘Create. Lead. Inspire,’” said Dr. Amber Mathern, co-advisor of NSU’s PBL chapter. “Our PBL students not only demonstrated the ‘Create. Lead. Inspire’ motto at the State Leadership Conference, but they do so every day in the classroom and NSU community. We are very proud of their accomplishments.”
