ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student Ramón Vega Jr. is the winner of the 2022 Mrs. Schaefer Scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship, named after educator Gloria Schaefer, is awarded annually to one junior or senior at a South Dakota college.

Vega is a Physical Education major at Northern and a member of the NSU Wolves Baseball Team.

“The best part about being a student here is the smaller class sizes and because it’s not a huge campus,” said Vega, from Buffalo, Minn. “Knowing more and more people around campus, it definitely has a strong community aspect to it.”

After college, Vega’s career plans are to continue with baseball, then to become a high school physical education teacher.
