ABERDEEN, S.D. – An author who has traveled the country seeking stories of often forgotten Americans will deliver the Northern State University Larry and Julie Poeppel Family Common Read Lecture this fall.

Chris Arnade will discuss “Dignity: Seeking Respect in Backrow America” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Johnson Fine Arts Center. 

“Dignity” includes photos and stories by Arnade, who shares tales of individuals across the U.S. struggling with issues like poverty and addiction. His fall 2020 lecture at Northern is free and open to the public. No tickets are required. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.

The book is available for purchase on the NSU Wolf Shoppe website under “Trade Books” for $18.95. Customers can have the book shipped to their home or choose “Pick Up at Wolf Shoppe.” Since the Wolf Shoppe is closed through May 31, customers choosing “Pick Up at Wolf Shoppe” until then can pick it up at the NSU Post Office, open 9-11:30 a.m. Monday-Friday. 

Now in its 11th year, Northern’s annual Common Read program has grown into the largest academic event on Northern’s campus, attracting best-selling, internationally recognized authors. The event is supported through a generous endowment by the Larry and Julie Poeppel family.
