ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s Dr. Andrew Russell, assistant professor of biology, was recently chosen as a recipient of a South Dakota Board of Regents Competitive Research Grant.

Russell’s proposal is entitled “Analysis of Pseudomonas Syringae Virulence Factors Inducing Host DNA Damage.”

Russell’s project “aims to understand how pathogens damage host DNA and, thereby, could provide insight into mechanisms of virulence that should be of interest to various external funding entities,” according to his proposal.

"This is another great opportunity to engage our students in scientific inquiry and build upon NSU's profile as a competitive research institution," said Russell.

Russell’s proposal was one of eight chosen to receive a grant for FY19. A total of 35 proposals were submitted this year.
