ABERDEEN, S.D. – Students in the Aberdeen area will join millions of their peers across the country to celebrate the 17th annual National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America Day on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

NEA's Read Across America Day, which celebrates Dr. Seuss's birthday and the joys of reading, expects more than 45 million readers, both young and old, to pick up a book and read.

To honor the good doctor and celebrate the fun and value of reading, the NSU student chapters of the South Dakota Education Association, Association for the Education of Young Children and the Council for Exceptional Children are asking you to join NEA and many of America's leading literacy, youth and civic groups in bringing a nation of readers together under one hat – the red and white stovepipe made famous by the Cat in the Hat – for a flurry (or furry) of reading excitement!

WHO:     Preschool through third-grade students
WHAT:   Read Across America Literacy Event
WHEN:  5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017
WHERE: The Aberdeen Mall (formerly Lakewood Mall) center stage

The Cat in the Hat will make an appearance, as will Mother Goose and NSU’s Thunder. The goal is to show America's children the joy of reading and build a nation of readers – on Feb. 28 and every day.
