  • ABERDEEN, S.D. (July 26, 2017)  The public is welcome at an upcoming open house at Northern State University’s newest residence hall.

    The open house for Wolves Memorial Suites will be held 4:30-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at the residence hall, located near South Washington Street and 12th Avenue Southeast. NSU Residence Life staff will offer guided tours of the facility, which will open for fall semester.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. (July 20, 2017) – A husband and wife team with professional theater design experience across the country is joining the Northern State University School of Fine Arts.

    Trevor Carrier has been hired as NSU’s new theater manager/production manager. Jordan Jaked Carrier has been hired as the new NSU costume shop manager and will also teach courses in history of theater and costume design.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. (July 19, 2017) – Alison Byrd remembered visiting the Omaha zoo as a child and decided to take a chance – she contacted the zoo to ask if it had any summer internships.

    “I knew it might be a long shot because of the amount of students from bigger schools that are in the area, but you never know unless you try,” said Byrd, who will be a senior this fall at Northern State University.

    That leap of faith paid off. Byrd has been working at the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha since May. Her internship lasts through July 28.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. (July 11, 2017) – Northern State University has chosen the No. 1 New York Times bestseller “Salt to the Sea” as its 2017 common read.

    Author Ruta Sepetys will deliver NSU’s annual Common Read Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. (June 30, 2017) – Jim Thares of Aberdeen has been appointed to the South Dakota Board of Regents.

    Thares is founder and CEO of Primrose Retirement Communities, an Aberdeen company founded in 1989 that operates 35 senior living communities in 16 states. He succeeds Harvey C. Jewett of Aberdeen, who retired from the board after 20 years of service, including 10 years as the board president.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. (June 30, 2017) – Harvey Jewett is retiring from the South Dakota Board of Regents after two decades of accomplishments—including a recent push to secure approval of the Northern State University Regional Science Education Center.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. (June 29, 2017) – Northern State University revealed at a reception held Wednesday night that the Johnson Fine Arts Center main theater will be renamed the Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

    A plaque will be created to hang in the space, dedicating the theater to the couple.
