  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will hold the 34th annual Northern South Dakota Science and Mathematics Fair on Thursday, March 23.

    Approximately 60 judges from surrounding areas will be judging the projects of high school juniors and seniors from 20 surrounding schools in the area and interviewing these students.

    The students involved come from Brown, Campbell, Day, Edmunds, Faulk, Hyde, Marshall, McPherson, Roberts, Spink and Walworth counties.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will honor the 332nd birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach with the seventh annual Bach’s Lunch on Wednesday, March 22.

    The concert will begin at noon at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. S.E.

    Bach’s Lunch will feature the NSU Chamber Singers, under the direction of NSU Director of Choral Activities Dr. Timothy Woods.

    The new northern.edu launched last week. The website is mobile friendly and includes interactive features such as:

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Tabitha Reule will have a senior recital on Sunday, March 19, at 3 p.m. in Northern State University’s Krikac Auditorium.

    Reule is the daughter of Betsy and Matt Glenn of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Buck and Colette Reule of Mobridge. She graduated from Mobridge High School in 2013.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Stephanie Arne, host of “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom,” will speak in honor of Women in Science week on March 7 at 7 p.m. at the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center Main Theater.

  •  ABERDEEN, S.D. – When students begin classes in fall 2019, they will be the first of many to study in the new Northern State University Regional Science Education Center, which will advance educational and research opportunities for the university and the entire region.

    With the governor’s signature in place, the NSU Regional Science Center project is moving forward. A final building design will be developed by the end of summer and go before the South Dakota Board of Regents for approval this fall. Construction will begin in spring 2018.

    NSU will host the HLC peer review team on March 20 and 21 as part of comprehensive review for reaffirmation of accreditation.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – More than 150 middle and high school students from northeastern South Dakota will be on the Northern State University campus on March 15 for the National History Day regional competition.

    A total of 159 students from seven schools will present 105 research projects as part of the competition, which will run from 8 a.m. to noon in the NSU Student Center and Missouri River Room.

    This year’s theme is “Taking a Stand in History.” Nationwide, more than a half million kids participate in National History Day every year.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Art Department presents the 2017 Juried Student Exhibition from March 1-March 31 in the NSU Student Center gallery.

    The opening reception is 6-7:30 p.m. March 2 in the Student Center Gallery. The event is free and open to public. Refreshments will be served.

    The artwork presented has been chosen by this year’s juror, Lauren Tucci. Tucci is a ceramic artist and gallery assistant at the Gilded Pear gallery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Ceramics… more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – In honor of Black History Month, a screening and discussion of Ava DuVernay’s documentary “13th” will be held on the Northern State University campus.

    The event will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Red Room (JC117).

    DuVernay’s film explores the history of racial inequality in the United States. The event, which is co-sponsored by NSU Jump Start and the NSU Honors Program, is free and open to the public.
